High or Low Tone on the Vaquero/Cibola? HOW TO TELL??

fraze

New member
Hi all, I've just picked up a Vaquero, it's in mint condition and I'm super happy with it, but I can't figure out if it's the "High tone" or low tone model? On the outside of the box label says VAQUERO W/SCUFF ROHS TONE CHANGE"

I've checked Youtube but nobody has a comparison or demo of the higher tone. Any ideas?

I heard or people getting a "tone change" to the higher tone. So it's a safe bet that it's the high tone. My Vaquero is the high tone and I think that I like the lower tone better. When I get my Eldorado back I'm going to do a side by side comparison to see which tone I like better.

BTW you're going to love your Vaquero. It's really fun to use.:)

Standard tone is low tone. If it is tone changed, that means it is high tone.

Is there a serial number on the box? If the serial number on the box matches the serial number on the detector, and the box is marked Tone Change, then it should be a high tone.

If you have a dealer near by who has a demonstrator that is low tone, compare it to what you have.

Thanks for the tips guys, the serial matches so I guess it's a high tone. Sounds fine to me, but it's far too loud for my taste. Now I'm looking for a 1/4 to 1/8" adapter and a pair of earbuds with an inline volume control!
Soon I'll be able to upload a video on Youtube for the next person to ask this question.

Slightly off topic, but the shouldn't a Canadian quarter be detectable from more than, say, 5" in air testing?

(EDIT - OK, so I didn't bother to read the manual before posting. Adjusted the threshold, getting massive distance in air test.)

Now to dig up the garden and plant some coins!!
