I was taken back a bit with the funeral of this Sister of Christ compared to ALL other funerals I have been in attendance.

Most times the funeral provides a minister to 'officiate' the service. Generally, and this is 99 percent of the people who do not know God, the minister does not know anything about the one who passed away. They gather a little information from several people then construct a general funeral service. They are usually OK but not memorable.

Nana's funeral was different. The minister was her minister at her church. The funeral service was held in the church Nana attended regularly. The minister admitted that he was humbled by all that Nana did and has done for so many others. The word saint was mentioned and he said that he could not put his name in front of being a saint but in Nana's case she was truly a saint and even the minister wished he could be more like Nana in her faith and love for God.

Each of the grandchildren (including Sherry) got up in front of all that were gathered there to say a few words. As I listened to what was said, I watched the minister who shook his head each time something said hit home with him. Here were people who KNEW Nana. Not some "$99 hire me minister" provided by the funeral parlor.

These were people who loved Nana and knew her well. Though for us, she will be missed, Heaven is blessed to have her. Her Bible was like love letters from God. When your loved one is gone one reads over and over the love letters sent to the ones they miss. They hang on to the letters and over time from reading and re-reading they start to get tattered looking...but the love is still in each one. And you keep reading them until the loved one returns to your side.

Nana's Bible was tattered from her reading and re-reading of these love letters from God - His Word. She is enjoyed reading about the love God had for her and others. The One she loved is now with her. May she rest in the peace of God forever and ever. Amen.
