Hot ground

I have a Ace 350 i bought in Louisiana, it worked OK but nothing compared to my Whites Coin master Pro. I have since moved to Colorado and the Ace just makes me so upset because of all the false signals I don't use it any more. I did notice here in Trinidad there use to be a lot of Cole mines and I keep digging up these black rocks that if i pass them over the coil they show up as the high tone beeps like coins. Am I going to have to buy a new detector that I can ground balance like the AT Pro or AT Gold? The Coin-master is just about as bad But i use it because the Ace is just to aggravating

Tiedoux+ Coal or clinkers (ashes) will Defiantly cause detectors to be unstable. Detectors without ground balance are usually useless, somewhat depending on the amount of coal or ashes and clinkers present. Clinkers and ashes from burning Anthracite coal (hard coal), will frequently defeat a detector with ground balance. I have a hundred and fifty year old church, I have permission to hunt in Missouri (where I live). The church had been heated with a coal burning stove, The ashes had been spread all the way around the mud (dirt) church yard, to provide more stable parking for buggies and cars 100 to 150 ft.out from the church, for 75 to 100 years. I have been in there with Minelabs, Garretts, whites, and fishers, nothing worked. the ashes were 1 to 2 inches under the top soil, going down to three ft. in depth. Have had the same experience in some of the Pennsylvania coal fields, and other old churches and schools in a number of other states and other buildings in Missouri. If the coal and ashes are not too concerated a ground ballance may help, you will still have chatter, but may be able to hunt, your depth will be reduced. I have not tried to hunt this old church in the last 10 to 12 years, if I can get current permission I may try again, to see if a more recent detector would work. This has been my experience with coal and ashes, hope I have answered your question Steve.

Steve Thank you so much, I kind of thought this was part of my problem and needed conformation. I am saving up to get a Garrett AT Gold, Minelabs are way out of my price range. But seeing how you have owned Garretts and Whites in your opinion witch one will work better here in Colorado I want to go up to some of the old Gold mines. Again Thank you :)

Even with the much older Garretts there are places that one just cannot detect due to high mineralization, power lines or some other unknown reason. Have this problem with my Freedom 3 Plus and just use another detevtor to bypass the problem. Good luck.

Tiedoux: The Whites MXT has a setting for gold has done well especialy larger nugets, mostly in Alaska. the AT Gold in my opinion will do better on small Gold, that is more likely to be found in Colorado. The AT Gold being water proof to ten ft. gives the AT Gold the advantage, as you will probally hunt some streams where gold is most likely to be found. Should also do better in rain, snow and mud. Manufactors price is the same for both detectors, I would favor the AT Gold for Colorado. Steve

Yes Steve I was leaning in that direction, Plus the fact you almost have to have a engineering degree to figure out the Higher end White machines. Thanks again.

My Ace 250 hasn't had any problems under high voltage lines, although when I went near (250-500 metres) radio and television transmitters, it would just beep all over the place with no control whatsoever...
