went to a park near where i grew up dug about three holes found 2c mower clad, and the forrest police told me to leave and he really didnt care, cause the holes where neatly done, but they were closing the park for a future function of some sort, he warned me that he could write me a ticket, and that the other guys most likely would , for digging holes, does anyone know about illinios forest preserves rules , ( will county) forrest police, i thaught i had a right to recreation in the park as long as i was respecting it. ??? anyway, i went to another park down the road, found a 1953 wheat, a 1939 nickel, and couple clad so im exited to go back to this park to see if there are any silver about.. HH jack

sounds like you need to talk to the director of parks in your county and or the lead super on the state park system in your area. get the real legal info for yourself. the guy might not have written a ticket cause he knew he couldn't. just a maybe.

Most Illinois State Parks have rules for detecting. We have had to get permits in some of the State Parks and others there's no detecting at all. It all depends on which park you go to. Kankakee State Park (we've been there camping) has NO detecting along with many others. You're lucky you didn't get a ticket. Some of those fines are mighty steep. Good luck and before going to State Parks, make a few phone calls. HH, Nancy

it was at a will county forest preserve, ill just go out to the woods for now on, and stay out of sight of the parking lots, funny u can get a ticket when im packing out others trash , but its fine to make a mess , throw cans all over , i look at it as doing a service to the preserve , not a dis-service, i went to school for park management ,
