How Consistent Are The ID #'s On The Deus? How good is it in Badly Mineralized Soils?

So I had these two questions about the XP Deus.

1. I heard from a guy here on a forum (forum sponsor) that the Deus overall is a great machine but the ID Numbers on it are very inconsistent and all over the place as opposed to other detectors like minelab etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this???

AND

2. I live in the California Valley with BAAADDDLY Mineralized Soil .... I know other units excel in this area like the E-Trac etc. ..... how well does the Deus do in this kind of mineralized soil vs. the other guys???

I have been researching this XP like crazy and I think after deciding on one, then another, then another , then another detector (of course every-time going up in price) I am pretty well set on this Deus ... but curious about these questions if anyone has any feedback or anything more they would like to provide about the detector.

And really I would like to know how the XP Deus in general stacks up against the highly popular and most recommended overall seems like Minelab E-Trac??? (that was my main unit I was going to get till I found out how good of a price I could get in the Deus)

Thanks you so much for any feedback or thoughts you can provide.

In my experience the VDIs are not as reliable as the audio. If you are digging coins next to and within iron, the VDIs won't be much help. If you are hunting in a cleaner area they are somewhat reliable, but large iron and aluminum are great for throwing off VDIs, the longer the item(s) are buried the more difficult it is to rely on VDI alone. I started out with a "Deus Lite" which is the coil and phones only, no control box. You have a good amount of control over the Deus with this setup and it taught me to rely more on the audio than anything else.

It seems this approach helped out immensely - since now I will rountinely get an iffy VDI readings but the audio sounds better - and that many times is a coin lying next to junk. I guess it really depends on your stype of hunting - Personally I like to wade through a bunch of trash to see what other detectors left behind or what other detectorists shied away from - the results are amazing! Like Southwind said in a previous post... If you're looking for coins 8" and shallower in moderate to heavy trash, go with the Deus; but if you want more reliability with 8" plus coins go with an Etrac or CTX. Personally I would MUCH rather have the cherry-picking ability over raw depth, and I know I'm missing deep targets - but I can always hope for a competitive software upgrade in the future! Im sure that eventually I will be able to get those DEEP targets after learning new settings and such, but I'm still a very happy camper since I came onboard with Deus...

But the one thing I wonder when most all guys are talking about not getting the depth I would assume you are still using the 9" coil correct (vs. etracs 11) ... From what I have gathered that depth is now almost side by side with XP's new 11" coil version!

It would make sense the 9" coil doesn't go as deep as the etracs 11" coil .... But with an 11 on the Deus the depth should be just as close now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've been told that by a few guys now that the 11" coil is shat the Deus always needed to compare to the etrac in depth

I've never owned an Etrac, but I am using the 11" coil on the Deus. Never owned the 9" coil, got started with the 11 X 13 coil and then switched to the more stable and lightweight 11" round coil a few months back. There wasn't much difference in depth with the 11 X 13 vs the 11" round in my opinion, but the performance and signal clarity in trash was many times better with the 11" round coil.

Anyone use the 9" coil and then move to the 11" and can comment on the added depth???

I created a thread here BTW with this basic question .........
