How deep do you go or when do you fill in the hole and walk away?

My T handle Sampson digger blade is no wider than the Raptor i carry. I use both in the NYC parks i hunt. I use a drop cloth as well. I have had the main park lady come up and kneel down beside me and watch me recover a deep merc. She smiled the whole time and was very happy how i left no trace. She also noticed the pouch full of trash too. This was a good 11in with alot of dirt on the cloth. After that when she sees me she want to see my finds. Not to say this can happen everywhere but not where i hunt.

Andy,I just started using an Explorer ll and I'm very impressed with its performance.Anyway last year I got a good signal while using my Sovereign in one of my favorite parks where one of my friends had complaints from someone that he was digging up the park. This hunter was warned by the park ranger not to be excessive in his recovery effort and after hearing of this warning other hunters including myself were more cautious.I was searching near a trash can and got a 180 signal on the meter for my target. After cutting a flap and digging down about seven inches the target was still good but off center when I checked the faint signal with the probe. The hole was now being hollowed out on the side going down on an angle still giving a good signal. There was a lot of dirt next to that hole.I could hear the ranger's gator pull up and at the same time I was pouring dirt back in the hole and putting the flap back in place. The ranger came over to look at the trash can and asked me if I found anything. I was surprised how well everything went back in place and left little sign of how much digging was done. When the ranger left I reopened the hole and recovered a mint condition 1936 Walking Liberty Half.To answer your question on deep targets I,ll stop and fill my hole when I'm being watched. How deep?just a guess 12-13 inches depending on ground conditions.

HI..When i get a deep target i position myself so my back is to the main traffic area and put a towel down that is just long enough to go in between my knees and the side of the hole. If there is a lot of dirt half of it goes between my knees so it looks like a small amount on the side of the hole. Just a thought you may want to try if a lot of people are driving or walking in the park. harry
