How do you test for mineralized soil?

How do you test for mineralized soil using the MXT? as I understand it the prospecting mode "ground" reading is not the way to tell, as I understand the MXT Edge book states how to tell but I hate to spend the money just for that info and have owned the book before but forgot what he said.

He said!!!!!! Re: Switch to "relic mode" and it will be on upper right of display.

I tell ya what switch to relic mode on your MXT and look in the right hand corner of your screen and tell me what you see slick!!! hummm nada!!! if you are refering to prospecting mode and the ground number in the right hand corner read my first post real slow and you will figure it out.

I always thought that the ground reading in "Prospect" was the way to go as regards mineralized soil - here in the UK I detect in nothing other than "Relic" but I can always tell when I'm over an old site as the chatter increases and a quick flick to "Prospect" shows an increase in the numbers on the VDI.

However where I am there's very little natural rock so the ground readings are always lowish in number - mineralized to to us usually means human intervention - sites that have had occupation for 1000+ years where everything has decayed.

Thank you for your response, I see allot of posts of people using the ground number in prospect to tell if the ground they are over is mineralized but the MXT Edge book states to the contrary my question is which is it? it would be easy to use the ground number but if that isn't a accurate way to tell we shouldn't be using it as we could loose depth using the wrong coil for our location, could someone with a copy of the MXT Edge elaborate on his idea on the subject?

$25 for one paragraph lol everything else in there is old news, figured someone in such a large forum could answer a simple question .

Ok,
I looked in my MXT Edge book and this is a BRIEF summery of what it said. (there is alot more to read on Ground Mineralization)
I have not used any of this knowledge, so I can't attest to it's validity.
I usually just turn my MXT on and go, but my soil does not seem to be high in mineralization.
Use this as you see fit.

As a rule this is most effective where the GROUND number in PROSPECTING is above 70.

1. With your MXT off, set it to:
Mode - Prospecting
Trac - Ground
2. Coil waist high turn on the MXT and flip the TRAC to LOCK and move the Gain to the Lowest position.
The ground reading should read 50. If not repeat the steps.
3. Flip to RELIC and lower the coil.
4. Pull the Trigger to enter Pinpoint and find a clean spot of ground. NO Metal
5. After you find CLEAN ground, release and re-squeeze the trigger.
Note the DEPTH, it should read 12" and have a slight threshold
6. Keep the trigger pulled and raise the coil to waist high.
7. The DEPTH will now show the strength of the ground mineralization.
The lower the number the higher the mineralization.
12"-5" = low mineralization
5" - 2" = Moderate "
2" - 0" = High "

The LOWER the Depth number the higher the mineralization.
Example.. a reading of 2 means the ground mineralization response is comparable to the strength
of a coin sized target at 2 inches from the coil.
A reading of 10 means that GROUND MINERALIZATION is comparable to a
coin sized target at 10 inches from the coil.

The higher mineralization ( lower numbers 2"-0") would indicate the use of a DD coil or a smaller coil.

I hope this is what you were looking for and that it helps you find all that great stuff.

Will give that a try next time out - see if I'm missing out on a more stable machine.

Having said that I've just re-read the post quoting from the book and the opening line reads

" As a rule this is most effective where the GROUND number in PROSPECTING is above 70" so I guess that means you have to check in Prospecting BEFORE carrying out the instructions that followed - curious :wiggle:
