How do you tighten the coil on your Vaquero

I'm curious as to how people tighten the coil to the control housing on the vaquero. I usually just hand tighten it, but it still usually looks like there's space to tighten it more even though I get it as best as I can. Would it be better to tighten it with a tool or does hand tightening it usually do the job

Hand tightening has always worked for me. IMHO unless you have a problem with the threads on either connection I wouldn't use a tool as that may make it possible to over tighten considerably.

Please no tools, that could lead to big trouble. Push your plug in all the way then turn the lock ring down just snug with your fingers. I just checked mine and when it is down snug there is about 3 threads left showing.

I just wanted to make sure there were supposed to be a few threads still showing...thanks for the input

Overtime the rubber washers wear to the point that the coil will start to sag while you are detecting. If you tape a single layer of duct tape over the back side of each washer the added thickness will thicken the washer enough to put a little rubber out for compression. Other than that suggestion I agree completely with the other contributors - Don't use any tools, finger tighten only.

I believe Bobby is refering to the plug on the end of the coil cable that screws into the control housing.
