How does one get permission to hunt schools?

Just a curious question. Who do you ask to get permission to hunt schoolyards as in Oz
where I live the finds should be quite good. I have never seen any body hunting school yards here
in Australia. Can it be done here in OZ?
Thanks

In the USA, schools operated by the government seem to be open without any permission needed. Schools that are owned by non-government entities would need to be asked if MDing is OK. That is how it is the USA.

School yards in my part of the country (central Canada) no problem detecting them.
Private school yards different matter.
I always do it on the weekends and sundays when there's no ankle bitters (kids) around.
Make sure that all holes are filled and any dugged up junk carted away

I went to the principal of my kids school when we lived in Brisbane, I got permission no problems. I said if jewelery was lost I would do a free search for the item in return for the permission. I also said I would give them a list of any valuables found. I asked for a covering letter (letterhead) When the security guards done their rounds they asked me for the covering letter. They then gave me a business card (security) and asked me to call them and let them know when I detected the school, for the benefit of local residents who ring security. Just ask the principal and everything should work out for you, better to ask permission and get a knock back, then to do it on the sly and get charged with trespass etc. Hope this helps regards Nugget.

Thanks Nugget,
I think the rules here in Oz are a little different then they are in the States.
I was sort of leaning towards approaching the principle as unwanted attention is not needed for sure.
I'm out at Ipswich and some of these schools should have some really good items lost in the hundred or so yrs they have been around.
Thanks once again fella's for your input.

I found this yesterday hunting in a school yard behind my home.
The gates are open, so I went inside and began. I also found
several dollars in clad, a dog tag, an earring and several buttons.

If the gates are locked, I stay out, if open, I enter and find treasures!
Have a great day!

I've got to hunt 3 schools here in Dubbo. I hunted my son's former school only last School holidays and pulled up just under $300 plus my first 2 florins. I had permission and have a few conversations with the grounds man when he was there.
My wife worked at another school, which gave me a leg in. I only hunted that once and was approached by the security guard. There was a third school which I contacted cold and was refused permission. 9 months later, the school contacted me because I own a fairy floss machine. They gave me written permission to hunt in exchange for the use of my machine. They have just installed a 9 foot fence, so I can't get in there anymore.
Always check with the Principal. Some will say yes and some will say no. You can be charged with trespass and steel if you hunt without permission. A lot of Aussie hunters are ignorant of that, which could turn a good hunt into something you don't want.

It is ALWAYS best to ask permission to hunt. Schoolyards included. It may not legally required UNLESS they have a locked gate or are posted No Trespass, but why risk the trouble. I have never been denied permission & there are several options. You can check with a member of the School Board or School Superintendent which will cover the whole district, or ask Principal, Office Staff or Teacher at each school. A letter will work if you cannot meet face to face, I send a preposted return postcard in the envelope that only needs their name written in & they can drop in the mail. I alway tell them I am going to remove the trash metal bits which can cut & injure kids (show them examples), & the change I find is less than fair wage for the job. Always go after school hours! I also advise them I will TRY to return property which can be identified
