HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT DATING A "THIMBLE" ????

Thimbles probably date back to before the birth of Christ. I know they have been found in Roman sites. I suggest visiting the minelabowners site that Gary Brun owns in the UK. Some of those guys may have some useful info. I have dug two made of silver. One was dug with a .58 Minie in a Union site at Nashville. It is jeweler engraved with initials. Civil War Soldiers carried a "wallet" called a Housewife. This cloth or leather Housewife would contain their sewing items. Wish I could help more. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
