Just purchased a Expl II,been reading all the forums here, the manual and watching the cd.Getting ready for all the snow here in michigan to melt.I purchased a tesoro compadre two years ago for my son.We have had a good time with it,lots of clad, some silver and even a few rings.I can pinpoint with its 8 inch coil easily. The idea of using the explorer with the ten,and I also purchased a WOT,seems a little intimidating. Also we found lots of coins on a daily basis, with the tesoro.I see here some find a "few" items with there explorers, but i found lots easily with the compadre,is the explorer going to impress me as easily as the little compadre?thanks, scott

Tesoro have always been know for their pinpointing abilities, but in most cases lack the superior depth of an Explorer..Pinpointing with a double D coil of a Explorer can be mastered with practice. Indeed time in the field and the Explorer will start to fall into place..As far as being impressed when you stand on a old baseball field that has been beat to death after digging a 10-12 inch silver dime I am sure you will be impressed.2 and 3 inch clad coins never impressed me, so in addendum welcome to a new world...

Practice pinpointing at home. Take an assortment of coins and lay them on clean ground (void of any metal). Hold your coil of choice about 5 inches above your target and attempt to pinpoint. As you begin to get familiar with this process, try holding the coil higher and higher. Do not be concerned on air testing. Multi-frequency detectors rarely air test very well, but they will punch deep in soil. This will give you some valuable practice before the season starts in your area. Really do appreciate the input guys, probably be a regular here, for some time now.Own a fisher gold bug and my son and his tesoro.Been skimming feverishly over the forums here, looks like I've found maybe another facinating place to spend some time on those lonely mids here at work.Plus you guys are high tech, and the posts are very interesting. Some of the places my son and I have been checking out here in michigan seem to be loaded with stuff.Mostly like I said its been clad, but thats fun also.It gives me time to "focus" and forget the bs that we are all surrounded by.I was told to look under the minelab sticker,to pinpoint, but we will see. Thanks again, scott

First month newbie with ExpII Scott I had a Prizm for four months before ExpII. As you say I really did well, best pinpointer, clad all day,.. 17 silver rings 4 gold rings. First 2 weeks went every day with EXp..wanted to throw it off a cliff! Went back and read slowly Andys book, crisscrossed every veterans comment etc. Started to be 95% sure on nickels, confident on gold rings, silver rings silver. Made every mistake cause I didnt listen. If these guys say..open gain up, use deep or fast, go manual sensitivity, open Iron mask..do it. DD coil is way different than concentric. Finally I learned that Exp is screaming over 3 targets..I got to dance under the coil to lock on my good target. For example...got a 9 inch hit on a weak nickel..had 8" coil so that meant maybe 6 1/2". Also had screaming of high silver pitch reading 2/31 on digital..total confusion..I dug lost all sounds! Andy said Exp does not lie..so i probed 2" found rusty nail, 4" to the right smaller rusty nail 6" no sound from nickel..went to Iron mask open at 16 bam..still there..at 6 1/2 1961 nickel. Why did I get hits on nail..im an idiot..what was I running..you got to think and never give up I think..it is coming together now..it takes time and extreme going back to the drawing board...my point is listen to these guys, it does do what they say..dont give up.
