How far have we come

I,ve detected my back yard in the last 10 years with a Whites qxt, a minelab sovereign, a vaquero, a deleon and a golden umax. I found something with them all but it got less and less. I bought a 20 year old non umax cutlassII with a 7 inch concentric, I bought it for the coil, not Knowing how good of shape this detector was in. Anyway I took it out in my still frozen back yard I dug four signals and two were aluminum ,one was a king George penny and a brass hair clip. There were good repeatable signals everywhere. This cheap detector is a silent search and has a soft whisper type tone. I can't wait till the ground thaws.Anyway like the title says, how far have we come. Vaughn in Nova Scotia

I'm a fan of the older ED 120 disc. circuit Tesoros, the Compadre is the closest in performance as far as 'new' detectors put out by Tesoro.

The older Tesoros work more quietly in the nail strewn yards that I hunt at, probably target masking was the problem with your other detectors.

Or you plain 'just missed' them on your previous hunts, who knows? I miss stuff all the time even while gridding an area.

In some of the old yards I hunt in, you would have thought the previous owners seeded their yard with rusty old square nails, go figure.

In all the yrs I've been detecting, I have gone over my favorite spots with a new to me different machine and always find more new stuff. It's not that this machine is the best etc. It's just different frequencies, soil conditions, and a great attitude toward a new unit. It's all fun!
