How hard is it to make your own coils?

I'm so tired of being at the mercy of the coil companies.
I have a couple different detectors that would love to have different coils for.
Why is it that White's DFX has so many different coils such as the 2 inch by 9 inch DD, the 4 x 18 inch dd, the 12.5" dd and a host of other cool coils but no one can make a 2 x 9 dd for the Explorer or a 4 x 18 for the Explorer?
Are we Minelab users that devoid of a brain trust that we can't come up with some of these kind of coils?
