how i search with the xt-70

Hi All
This is my favourite method to hunt for coins, jewellery etc. Firstly i set my ground balance and noise cancel automatically. Then i hunt in all metal mode, this also includes beach hunting I tune the ground balance for the dry sand, and then re-balance for the wet sand. I use 2 tones as this i find works well for me. When i get a solid tone i go into pattern 2, if the signal is still good i dig. If it blanks out i dont dig.
This method has saved me hours of digging unessisarily. I set up my pattern 2 to reject just about reject all rubbish including bottlecaps and also Pulltabs. The only tid i have trouble with is 20 which is the same for a certain shaped pulltab and a 20c coin. In this instance i will run my coil over from 7 different directions if it jumps around i know its no good. If it only jumps 1 or 2 notches i know its worth digging. Anyway i hope this sheds some light for some of you who might be a bit confused about the xt-70. And hope this method will increase your finds.

Gary, you search in All Metal but then why do you switch from All Metal to your custom set up Pattern 2 to check a target ? Why don't you search in your custom set up Pattern 2 instead ?

Do ever search for coins in Prospecting Mode at your beach ?

(Thanks, as I understand everything else.)

P.S. I know some people search in All Metal because "large iron" will sometimes jump from - to + back and forth and they would miss the - numbers if they are blocked out and only see the + numbers and mistakenly think it is a good target.

Actually, its not the only reason for hunting in all metal. With machine recovery time being what it is, it would be easy to miss a good target peeping through when hunting in a bunch of iron. Tonal characteristics are everything and sometimes you'll get a high tone even when the machine is registering a negative number and it bears checking it out because it could be a non ferrous target laying next to the iron.

Thanks, I did not know that ?? That is why we are here, to learn something.

I search in all metal two tones because when i hit a target its either high or low in tone, which means it could be a relic or something metallic worth keeping. The pattern 2 blanks out the targets i dont want to dig. So i scan in all metal and double check in pattern2.

Hi Guys
also i've found that in all metal mode the xt70 is a lot more sensitive and can detect at a deeper rate than in the pattern2 mode. Maybe the detector in pattern 2 is more restricted to what you can find Where as all metal, the xt70 can let its hair down and pick up everyting.
