I hear so many say the 8 inch is all they need for working around trash in parks and so forth. Some even say that they run the stock coil all the time and can do real good in a trashy park. Would like to hear from somemore of you what you find best for trashy parks and old fairgrounds.

I tried it and it works quite well but it is just too small for me. I do have an 8 inchminelab coil that I almost never use even though it will really get down in the ground I still prefer the stock coil.
 
It has to pretty trashy to need it. Like old homes that are still in use. HUS Ev</FONT>
 
I been using these little 5 inch coils more and more in some of my sites. I also us the Joey coil too and it will work good in trash, but the little 5 inch will realy seperate in the real trashy site. My first coin with mine was a 1935 Walking lib half that rang loud and clear with trash on all sides of it that we have missed in the 20 years of detecting this spot. Took it to another park that has a area that is so trashy have been unable to work it, with the 5 inch coil I got 3 silver rosie and 14 wheaties with one right on top of a Prince Albert can.
These little coil have got me some nice find the others have missed, but it does feel odd with such a small coil, like swinging a hockey puck.
It is a good coil for what it was designed for and not for covering a large area fast or getting the coin that are 10 plus inches down, but for seperateing the targets so you will get those that are mask with trash.

I just got the 5" Sun Ray coil. I took it to a well hunted park and just worked around large trees that were paved with trash. I found two mercury dimes, an ih penny and about a dozen early wheatbacks.

and its definately better in high iron for picking off stuff.. non ferrous trash I guess the 8 inch is good enough.....Although it might be a bit easier with a 5, your losing ground and depth
 
I Have Used It At A Forest Preserve.It Does Find The Coin Between The Trash.I Do Not Know How Deep It Will Go.
