How many of you good folks have ever found a hobo nickel?

It is on my "want-to-find" list before I die. For those who have never seen one, here is a tinyurl link to a google image search on them. http://tinyurl.com/y8pbqhh

Back in the 1930's or so, hobos used to carve these nickels to pay for lodging, food, etc. Some are amazing. I don't know of anyone who has found one. How about you good folks? If so, could you share a pic?

This is the first I've ever heard of them, now I'm going to put that on my list of things to find :)

The Indian got turned into a sharp looking hobo with a hat. It was a 1913 nickel and I've not been able to RE locate it for a long time. If I run across it I'll post a picture of it.

That would be a neat find. One guy in a club in NE Ohio found one in an area that was reputed to be a hobo camp in the 1930s. You have to watch it though - there are alto of modern made hobo nickels. There's a club devoted to hobo nickel collecting -here's their web site: http://www.hobonickels.org.

Coin World did a small article about Hobo nickels in the Dec issue. There is a society called the Original Hobo Nickel Society or OHNS. Dues are $15 to join. Its out of Ozawkie, KS.
