How many SE owners use the standard coil more than !

I'm still new to the SE, probably less than 6 months and now I use the minelab 8inch coil almost all the time. I don't have any sites that aren't extremely trashy. I've found some goodies and have been amazed at what I've missed at these sites before.
Still learning and not giving up.

I only use the smaller coil (8") in really trashy areas. For big school yards, just clad coin shooting, I use a 15" WOT. For amost everything else, I use the standard 10.5" coil.

Tend to use the Platypus coil mostly and the 15" WOT on sites where the medieval and roman stuff is deep...have used the 7.5" minelab coil and its hot on small hammered silver and celtic stuff :detecting:

I just started using the ML 7.5" or Minelab 800. A few weeks ago and haven't taken it off yet.
Not sure why yet but just kinda like it.

I went for quite a while primarily using the standard coil, maybe four years. My most successful years I used the standard coil and if it was nulling constantly then I would put on the Sun Ray x8.

I usually only get out once or twice a week and I like to hunt long hours. Now, I am using the Sun Ray x8 almost all the time due to the weight. I am probably missing some deep stuff but I can hunt longer before my arm gives out. I guess it is a trade-off. The last time I put in hours with the std. coil was the first hunt after I bought my SE (I have owned all three Explorers).

If you have the stamina and persistence to go slow, the standard coil will find great stuff that is deeper than the smaller coils will detect. You owe it to yourself to really get to know the standard coil. That is, use it exclusively for a season or two. Sure it covers more ground which will cause more nulling, but if you go slow you will clean-up! It really is "a small coil" compared to concentric coils of the same size. By learning the coil and how you can "poke the wiper blade" between junk and do the tiny wiggle, you will be rewarded.

Hope this helps and HH - BF
