How much do you get from a tank of gas? (Statistics for the hardcore only.)

I gassed up around two weeks ago and it cost me $45. Batteries cost zero, except for maybe 20 cents to charge them up. I work less than a mile from home and frequently walk there so figure all but about 10 miles of driving was to and from MD sites. I drove 356 miles in the period which began on 8/6/09. I still have enough gas to do one hunt close to home.

During that period I went out 9 times. I recovered 856 coins for $82.42. I found no gold items, 3 silver jewelry items, 13 silver dimes, and 52 wheat cents. Imagine if the same held true for your other hobbies. Example. I went golfing 9 times in July. I drove 400 miles to get to the various courses. Greens fees cost me $200.00. That is about right. While golfing I found $375.00. That might happen once in a blue moon if you found somebodies wallet. I realize it's apples and oranges but it is too hot to detect for the rest of the day and I took a week off during the worst weather week for detecting so far this year so I sat down and figured it out.

No need to reply that I'm over analyzing what should be fun and relaxing. My 25 hours in the field was both fun and relaxing no matter how I slice it up when I get home.

Now that there is just somebody BORED.:bouncy: Would be too depressing for me to figure the cost to find ratio.

Not that it matters, but, if I wasn't staying ahead of costs I would hunt less or at least closer to home. My general rule of thumb is that I have to dig 2 coins for every mile I drive to a site and home again. I created a spreadsheet that automatically figures out all kinds of cool stats after I've entered the information. There are those on this forum that have told me all the stats I keep are overkill but I really enjoy the "bookwork" after a hunt.

Thanks for looking, Reb. Your finds will increase at an alarming rate after you've practiced for somewhere around 100 hours. That was my personal experience. I don't know if you use a Pro-Pointer but it quickens recovery tremendously giving you more time to swing.

Personally, I like that ratio of silver to clad coins. If I'd been hunting like that all year I'd be up to around 150 silvers. Not that I think that's do-able. I have a ways to go to hit 50 silver for the year and I'm gonna try real hard to hit it. That and 200 Wheat's.
