How much luck is it to find a Platinum ring.

New member
Hi to all.
Found this Plat 950 ring at a beach in Mass in FEB 06
I see that a lot of you who post here are up a few years in age,so am I 67 and retired.Been swinging a total of 18 months and just love this hobby. So all you newbies out there don't give up you just got to put that coil over it.Going out tomorrow with ace 250 and see what it will fine for me.How is it in the wet salt sand? Thanks for looking Paul,

I have been surf hunting with a Mark II since jul '04 2-3 times a week from 4-8 hours a hunt. Have found gold & silver, but no platinum. That is a precious metal that has eluded me. Great find Paul!

Yeah platinum is scarce. Hard to believe that in the old days it was worthless and the miners threw it away. Later they used it to make lightning rods, dentures, and a host of other cheapy things.

No reading found using Minelab Elite no meter sound only and vary sharp. Hope that sound will register in my brain hope to here it again. HH Paul

Nice find Paul. You hunt Mass beach often ? The last two beach hunts I did were in Maine and I live in Mass. Interesting.

Hi Farnum

I met guy who moved up here from Mass and we have been hitting some of his old stomping grounds. Mostly small beaches in Mass.a couple times a months. Most of the beaches up here are sanded in bad but every once in a wile we will pull up a ring. Can't wait for the ice to sink so we can hit the fresh water beaches. I like inland water best and old racetracks and fairgrounds.I lived in the upper cape area for 20 years but was not metal detecting at the time.(dam-
it)where do you hale from in Mass. HH Paul

Nice find on the Platinum , Paul.

I just got back from FLA. Hunted with the Ace 250 and it works absolutely great in both wet and dry sand. In dry I was finding things at 12" deep. In wet not as deep and it will false if you let the coil touch the wet sand.

Was running Sens. at 6 most of the time and even at 8 it worked ; I was impressed. Only found clad but what a fun experience.:clapping:

Yah....I worked at a place where they used platinum as bubble tubes and was discarded as junk when damaged. If I had of known it would be worth as much as it was today I'd be asking John to make me some rings.

Yeah I al;ways tell guys who are going to be hunting around old abandoned homes to be sure and check out the lightning rods on the roofs.

Hi Paul,

One of my old bosses moved up to Maine and over looks Long Sands beach in York. I live down near Concord Mass.

I have searched around Wells a couple of time and found some coins but nothing else of any value.
