How much rain & drizzle is too much ?

I swing a Garrett GTI 1500.I got out for a short time last weekend and it started raining on me. I was at a soccer field and had just covered one end of the field near the goal when it started a light rain. I didn't have my display cover with me and started noticing a few drops of rain getting on the face on the unit so I quit and went back to the van. I certainly don't want to damage my best friend "GTI" so my my question is: how much rain & water is too much? How about the coil too? Is it water proof to any extent?

Thanks in advance,
Curt

The coil is waterproof the control box ain't. I carry a clear plastic produce bag with me in case it starts raining to put over the box. A little rain won't hurt unless it gets inside the box then it's toast.
