How to handle Virus

Hi All
Its a major failure to think a good Virus detector is all you need. A virus detector is good for infected DLL's, EXE and COM files but not for script files like visual basic (VBA) that is used in those Virus that spread fast.
You must have both a virus detector and a personnel firewall, the firewall will protect you against somebody passing anything in or out of your computer when you are using it. The firewall can be a hardware or software version depending on what you need. I am using a software version called Zone Alarm, it can be found as free ware for personnel use at this address:
http://www.zonealarm.com
This software is running in the background and controls all activity that is related to your connection
to the internet, for instance it stops those big multiply email and ask to permission before to send it. So mails with more than one receiver will be checked and this kind of virus will be stopped.
Some virus or VBA's can read you keyboard when you use it and without you knowledge it send a mail to a TCP/IP address sometimes. Many password and username is misused using this princip.
You can setup what programs you will aloud to access the web, and it also hides parts of you
TCP/IP address so hackers can not find you.
Its more safe to use email software like Netscape and Opera than using the wide open Explorer or
Outlook, until now I have received plenty of those mails but no one so far has hit my Netscape. Most
virus writers try to hit the most used versions of browses.
Hope this helps and I no this forum is not about virus, but the only thing that helps is talk about it and knowledge of how to protect you.
Mark
