I was detecing in an old lot and found a great sterling silver ring.

The thing is the dozer pushed in the bottom of it and I need to straighten it out.

Anyone have any ideas -I want to make it presentable at the next metal detection meeting.

cheers

Get youself a mandrel and nylon tipped hammer. Google "mandrel" and some jewelry places will come up. Be sure and get a graudated steel one, not a plastic cheapo. Should run you about $15 but well worth it. A set of the jewelers hammers run about the same. And while you're at it, Google "Brilliant Polishing Cloth" . in fact, Google that first and find a place that sells them all. Excellent for getting those rings shiny!! These were found yesterday, only two need mandrel work, but all needed polishing. First a scrub with soap and an old toothbrush. Then a bath in hydrogen peroxide. Next a bath in Tarn-x. Another soap scrub and then polishing with the Brilliant Polishing Cloth!!

I found a totially smashed flat silver ring awhile back. One day I was sittin around, I figured I might just try to get it back into shape. Well I took 2 screwdrivers, 1 with a handle about the diameter of the ring, then another bigger screwdriver to use as a soft hammer. I just kept tapping the handle of the big one and eventuially it went back to its shape. Its not perfect, but I would say that it is about 95% what it should be. I used the handle of the screwdriver because I didnt want to loose any of the decorative shapes on it. Hope this helps. Oh, I did all of this while sitting watching tv in my front room on a rainy day.
