HOW TO TAKE LEAP OF FAITH TO GO TO PRO MODE

idaho dan

New member
When I first got my ATPRO the guy I hunted with always hunted in Standard Mode. From reading zillions of posts I really feel like I'm probably missing out on alot by not somehow trusting in the Pro Mode. A few times I've tried to venture over to Pro Mode, only to find that the sounds are so different. I then digress right back to Standard Mode (where I am comfortable). My question is: How do I learn Pro Mode---which is probably where I should be? Does anyone else have (or had) this issue? I would sure appreciate any help. Thanks----Dan

Just pretend that it is another new detector and learn it!! Pro Zero is the deepest, but you will be getting all the trash signals which you will soon learn and be able to dismiss. If you are mostly a clad or recent drop hunter you don't need to go Pro, as you will not need the depth. Often being comfortable will produce better results than not being comfortable, but if it is older, deeper objects that you wish to hunt for you need to learn Pro and become comfortable with it.

In the next few days, I have a guest coming who has a mild interest in metal detecting. I constructed a test garden for him to learn the pin pointing methods with the DD coil on the Ace 250, use of the Pro Pointer and recovery technique using the probe and screwdriver. In addition to the Ace 250, I have the AT Pro and the GTI 2500. The AT Pro is my primary detector. After completing the test garden, I used the Ace 250 to test the results. I was amazed at how I was missing the target information that I was used to on the AT Pro. With the amplified tones of the Ace 250, all at the same level, I immediately missed information of target size and depth that the AT Pro provides. I didn't realize how dependent I had become on the proportional audio of the AT Pro. On many target signals, especially quarter signals, I use the Tone Roll audio to help verify that rusty iron is not trying to trick me. So my recommendation is: Go to the Pro Mode and don't look back. When you get to Salt Lake, it would be nice to have an eyeball to eyeball talk with you.

i find standard mode is very hard for me to run in from day one pro mode zero for me i,ll vary my disk from time to time but always in the pro mode

Don't get too worried that pro mode is some far-out complicated mind bender. I find standard mode much more frustrating! Just keep it in Pro Mode and it will all make sense soon enough...

I hunt in Pro Coin most of the time in The Parks and trashy areas if Field Hunting I hunt in Pro Zero Really there is not a Large learning curve from the standard and the Pro mode just do some tests with it and use some old rusty iron objects and mix in some silver and Clad targets and swing over them and That will give you a feel of the sounds make sure you use some old squashed rusted twist caps also cause they can fool a detector quickly I dig a lot of them cause I don't want to miss any deep silver coins in the areas I hunt But swinging the coil from different direction and different heights can give you a nice rollover low ,high low signal ! Good Luck and just take the Plunge

Find a good target in standard mode, switch over to Pro-mode,hear the sound then back to standard. Do this on every target for awhile and you will learn the Pro mode.

you can really tell a lot about a target in pro mode. Save a lot of digging

It really comes to you pretty quick. I use mostly the pro coin mode and may miss some deeper targets by not using pro zero mode, but it works great for me in the water much better than land. I guess I have more hours in the water than land or the wet sand is more conductive. I dug a ton of beer bottle caps starting out, but I've learned what I call the Snark, which what it sounds like when my coil scans a beer cap or bottle cap. Once you learn the different audio for pro mode, you probably won't go back to standard mode anymore.

When i started using the ATPro i started in Pro mode and still have not detected with the STD mode yet. I like to hear depth.

I just recently got a AT Pro and watched the videos (link below) while I was waiting for it to arrive. They helped ALOT and I felt comfortable starting out in PRO mode.
