How weatherproof is the Safari?

I have the box cover on mine but the Safari isn't waterproof I paid almost a grand for mine so I figure if it starts raining its time to go home! The coil can however be used in water. just dont hold the detector upside down letting the water backflow into the box!. I think the plastic cover is worth buying as it protects the LED screen from scratching.
