can anyone tell me how the Fisher75ltd or se handle black sand beaches thanks jim

The beach report I did shortly after getting my original, first run Camo F75 LTD got hammered when they did the server upgrade for the forum, else I'd link it here.

The short version is that I found the detector to be a pretty good detector over both the dry and wet sand at salt water beaches, even over the black sand spots. I found the 10 inch elliptical shaped concentric to be a little easier to use in these conditions compared to the 11 inch DD, but not by enough for me to go out and buy the coil if I had not already gotten that coil, used, in a coil package deal. The concentric coil seemed to tolerate being a little off on the ground balance more than the DD coil did, so it let me run a little more of the beach without the constant adjustments.

For me, running in discriminate mode just did not work well over the wet sand, even with a wide range of settings tried. Running the detector in motion all metal worked well. Needed to stay on top of the ground balance though. Hear it sound and look at the ID numbers to get an idea on what is in the sand. Iron is easy to tell by sound, but is annoying to listen to. With the ground balance in the 0 to 1 range to balance to the wet salt, the sounding on iron is very different in all metal than it is when the ground is in a more normal dirt range. The iron sound over the wet salt sand is very distinctive and very annoying to my ear.

Because of the frequent adjusting to stay ground balanced and the annoying bonging on iron, I much prefer a CZ for beach work. I've also got a couple other beach oriented detectors that I would prefer to take to the beach. That said, the F75 LTD would certainly do the job and do it pretty well if you were to only have one detector to pick from.
Cheers,

Revier,
Thanks for posting the link. Amazing that tinfoil's post is still all there. The long write up I did right after a week on the beach with the F75LTD got hammered down to a couple of lines. The video post by markg with Mark talking through setting up a F75 for wet salt sand and testing on buried rings looks like the video is now gone.

I think the bottom line is that the F75 series in any version can a good job at the beach when set up for the conditions.
