I took the day off work to spend the whole day with my son and detect. We went and asked permission to hunt an 1890's one room school house. The lady said no problem :clapping: but someone has already detected it awhile back..........

well we spent three hours there and only got a piece of a school desk, have not cleaned it yet, and a spent rifle casing. I just could not get any good signals. Whoever was there before me cleaned it good!

After that I went to my mom's house, she has been asking me to come there and detect the yard. Well after 3 hours there and only working the front yard I got 41 clad coins, mostly 1960's and ONE 1950 wheatie. So all in all it was a good day. Does anyone know what size rifle shell this is?

I hunted a one room school house the owner said sure there has been a thousand people that hunted it. You can be 1001. I said I will take the challenge and cleaned up! :) There are probably some goodies still there but are hiding around the junk like iron, or real deep! Keep up the good work. I bet the time spent with your son was more than worth it! :) Does that shell say 277?

Good hunt you had; that's a lot more coins than I found today...:super:
Does that shell say 277?
no it has on it a 2 it has a 7 and it has an L and a J

it sure would have had oldies originally. Glad you did get a bunch & the time with your son is priceless. I got 62 coins today but none great, steve in so az

If I had a building like that near me, I would hunt it from now until the Lord comes. I don't believe in hunted out sights.... I would grid that puppy from every angle possible. You just have to be in the right place at the right time! Good luck to you bro'!

Wow so many coins in the frontyard!!!!
I want to check my parents lawn this weekend... And for the old schoolhouse, that stinks, but keep looking for new places to surch!!!!

finding coins and the shell! Don't worry about not finding anything the first time you hunt an old place, do like Joe says and grid it and work slow when you haven't anything else to do or a better place to hunt! Remember, SWIING IT LOW AND SLOW!

God Bless!

I didn't get an anytime permission I asked for permission for today. I need to go back and ask if they mind if I stop by a few more times, I want to hunt it again, I am sure there is still goodies 2 be found

I would try to find where the outhouse was. That path was trod many a time. Plus items fell in by accident. Whatever went in naturally is soil now. Turn down your sensitivity and put it in the all metal mode. Go along the foundation. Dig all signals and like Joe G said do the grid thing. See you found something in a hunted out spot. The kids would have played even further from the building also. Probably a farmers field now.

there is probably an acre of grass around the school, no idea where the outhouse was. Do you mean turn UP sensitivity to go deeper? you said turn it DOWN ???

there may be wiring or any other metal thing like hangers for the brick in those walls but you want the coin signals. Out in the open you can turn it up to just where it runs stable. Smoking.
