Hunted my childhood home today

I got a Matchbox car and a marble from my early days and a few other goodies that were a little before my time. Too bad the Indian Head isn't the error variety! But, it is my first IH so I like it even if it is a $3 cent instead of a $1400 cent.

Anyone know what the little house is from? Did the early Monopoly games have solid metal game pieces?

Nice digs,. I love hunting family homeplaces, everything dug has a meaning!!

Hello everyone,
I am in the process of buying a detector for beach and goldfields prospecting. I am thinking of the X-terra 70 or the Cortes Tesoro.
Can anyone give me some good advise as to which machine would be more beneficial.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Tonkalong.

I own both and use both but the Xterra is the one I use the most. It has more features and versatility as well as the tone ID. The Cortes is one of the best coin only machines I have ever used but if you want a little more depth and the option to change things on the machine go with the Minelab. I'm not cutting the Cortes short but it just doesn't do as much. Hope this helps you.

Appreciate your advise Terry, It is the type of feed back I was hoping for. I have been a gold prospector for 12 years but have never tried treasure hunting so know nothing on this subject.
I recently took 5 people from Germany out on a prospecting trip and our last week was on a beach where I tried detecting the beach with a 15 year old Tesoro belonging to one of my German friends. It was great picking up $150 aust dollars up in 10 hrs over 3 days getting me well and truly hooked. Great fun.
Thanks once again.

Cheers and Beers......Tonkalong.

I have owned a Cortes - an excellent coin machine indeed. But, if you have an eyesight issue, the size of the display will cause you grief. It is very small when compared to the X-Terra's. They are both excellent machines. Price for both seems to be about the same, but for about the same $, you get more with the Minelab. If you already have a dedicated gold machine, then perhaps the Cortes will suffice. If you want to hunt salt beaches, then the Minelab will allow for that. I do not recall the Cortes having a salt beach setting.

I would suggest swinging both detectors. Perhaps your local dealer carries both and you can have a go at both of them and compare. Service of the detectors is also an issue if it becomes necessary. I do not know of Te Whichever of the two machines you decide on, you should be happy. Service is also something to consider. I do not know of Tesoro's reputation for providing service (perhaps others on this forum have had experience or you can go to another forum to inquire) but I have had great responses from Minelab, Las Vegas, NV whenever I have had a question or needed anything. Good luck.

If you are hunting in places ranging from beaches to prospecting, you will likely need a detector that offers the ability to adjust the Ground Balance. The X-Terra offers automatic GB, manual GB, Tracking, Beach mode and Prospecting mode with Iron mask. The Cortes allows you to GB in all metal mode. But if memory serves me correctly, it only offers the factory preset GB in the discrimination mode. HH Randy

Not trying to be over dramatic, but for saltwater beach hunting & prospecting the X70 will leave the Cortes for dead. The Cortes is a nice coin shooter and decent jewelry detector, but very dated. Tesoro fans have been waiting for some time now for a new ID detector based on the latest HOT Tejon/Vaquero platform.
