Most MDs work all-round better in AM mode. The X-Terras and others with TIDs and multi-tones lets you do the discriminating. You will have a better feel and confidence if you hunt this way."

Not sure all agree with this; Digger and others believe knocking out both ends can have a benefit. Unless I am looking for iron I also knock out both ends and don't feel I am missing anything of great value.

The problem with running discrimintation is the blanking of signals. It doesn't give as good of a feel, and you may notice that all targets respond a little differently with the disc on.

It's quieter, maybe a little too quiet.

Experiment and you will notice you miss things in the "middle" when you have the high and low ends notched out.

Different strokes etc. depends on the site too. This is more noticable on sites that have lots of the material you are notching out.

Also some MDs, generally speaking lose a little bit of depth just having discrimination "on" but nothing notched out or set to zero. I am not saying this is true with the X Terras as I will have to experiment and see.
