Richard,
I hunt solo but if you want to drive to St. Louis we could go out for a few hours...
Seriously though I have read pro's and con's to this. I'm probably a little selfish but prefer solo since I can come and go as I wish, hunt as long or as short as I wish, and all of the goodies are mine. Yeah... a little selfish of me. I guess another main reason, to cut me some slack here, is that I really don't know anyone else in my area that detects.
I have only seen two other detectorist in my area in the last year. I have ventured out to other areas, like 20 plus miles away, and have hunted some nice looking ground that are picked clean. Detectorist must abound out there! Probably going out in groups of three.
There are times that I would love to have a hunting buddy. When venturing out deeper into woods or down river banks, there is one cliff in my area that has sink holes that produce some unusual finds but it is a little eerie going there alone. Also the inner city in my area can be a little rough so company would be appreciated there as well. These conditions fall more around personal safety. In this case it makes sense to have a hunting buddy with you.
I'm curious on how others reply.
But of couse if some of you veterans lived near me I would be hounding you to let me go out with you.
