I am considering buyiny a Fisher

and I currently own an Explorer XS and am very happy with it. However in our ever challenging world I thought another machine would find what this one is missing. I purchased a Tesoro Tejon last week took it out and the Minelab beat it hands down. I bought it because so many people on their forum was raving about it. Personally, I don't see it. So now I am looking at Fisher, which I was originally going to buy (CZ3D) because I wanted to find more Indian Heads and Nickels. So after my disappointment with Tesoro I'm back to Fisher. Or should I just continue with the Minelab because it's just as good.
You guys on this forum sound just like the Tesoro guys. Maybe it's a "love the brand name thing". Personally I don't care what I use as long as it gets me the coins. So do I believe what you say? I guess I could believe guys who have had or have the Minelabs and say Fisher is better. Although the dealer I bought my Tesoro from said he has a Minelab and went to a relic hunt where Tesoro's tore up the Minelabs. A little help and honesty here would help. Thanks.

I just bought the CZ3D last night also run a sovereign xs-2a pro and a cz6a.
I dug the best looking pull tabs I have ever seen in my life, and the most.
The 3D is not a newer trash runner, the minelab will wade right thru it.
I will head out to some older sites and get away from the pulltabs then i'll let you know!

Heck a CZ3D or CZ70 pro should serve you well..Heck have used a bunch and Tesoro's never had the depth I needed for deep silver..Yep used a Explorer and litterly broke my back and although I had no problems learning it many do..Personally feel a CZ is a user friendly depth demon and coil for coil will go deeper than an Explorer at least in my neck of the woods..so an Explorer and Fisher CZ should make a good combo...

Minelab, and I have heard that the CZ3D does pick up a lot of tabs and iron even though it says it will block it out. I know my Minelab does an excellent job of blocking iron and still picking up the good stuff. Bowhawk, let me know how it goes.

because if you only gave the Tejon a week, then a Fisher don't stand a chance either. Because any detector you buy, you have to learn it and I don't see how you can learn a machine in a week. The Tejon is a complex machine just as the Coinstrike is with Fisher, they both have a learning curve, the C$ can take upwards of 40-50 hours to really get the hang of.
To me, the CZ5, CZ70 & CZ3d are a more turn on and go machine, but they still have learning curves. But which ever way you go, I would give which ever machine the benefit of the doubt.

one of the best machines that i have used to knock out iron is the Coinstrike.

I buried a newer nickel about 7 to 8 inches deep three weeks ago.
My cz6a calls it a square tab, my sovereign reads 164 on the DTI 111 meter when a nickel should read 141 to 146, my 3D calls it a nickel!
Somthing to think about!

Well sandysea, please see this series of posts concerning the Tejon that I wrote at the end of last year. Keep in mind I used a Tejon for about a year, and I made the effort and took the time to formulate those posts with someone like you in mind.
Reliic hunters are LOOKING FOR IRON, big iron, coin & jewelry hunters are doing their damndest to get away from it, and in many instances pick low conductivity targets out of it.

I use a CZ-20 in freshwater 95% and salt 5%, I have not used a Minelab because they are a company with good technology, but just cannot seem to get the ergonomics down. i.e. going to the trouble to design the "all new" Sov GT, and mounting the control housing underarm to the rear, and NOT including a pinpoint switch on top of the handle. Talk about a really stupid design decision! So Minelab has some warts also!
CZ's and iron are a continuing topic, much of it I believe brought on by individuals who are trying to sell you something else, or what I refer to as the pompom girls(I use the best machine made, my machines better than yours etc.).
Will the CZ respond to large deep iron with a high coin tone? Yes, but using the VCO pinpoint to shape and size the target will eliminate much of it.

Thanks Bill those were very informative posts. I am going to Florida in two days for 3 weeks and was going to give the Tejon a chance there. I appreciate the info on where to set the discrim. I am not looking forward to digging all the stuff you mentioned though. My old bones find it harder every year to do this. I currently have an Excalibur which a lot of guys use in Florida and have good luck. I don't know how good it is on small gold. All I can say is I haven't found any yet. I'll post my results when I get back. Thanks for all your effort.

I use several detectors and have owned an Exp. In heavy iron trash I liked the Minelab but that's where it ended. In my soil in Ky and on Fl beaches the CZ70 is much deeper and easier to use. I use my C$ in iron trash and for older sites. I think a CZ70 would compliment your Minelab very well. I wouldn't suggest a C$, I love mine but it has a long learning curve. My 3D is the same as my 70 but digs more trash, I just don't have many of the older sites it was designed for, also it has no depth advantage on my 70. If I could have only one machine, and this includes all my Fishers,DFX, and Exp... I would pick my CZ70.

there seems to be alot a them over at the tresure despot

I wish you hadn't said that. Now I have this awful mental image of a short homely pom pom girl with a ball cap and a fu-manchu. Yechhhhhh!

I have an Explorer and 3D. For me, it's a great combo. What one machine is 'lacking' in an area the other one seems to do well in. In my area, my 3D with the 8 inch coil is deeper than my Explorer with the 10.5 inch coil in *most* instances. If you hunt places with more modern trash the you might want opt for the CZ-70. I hunt a mixture of places that have old coin but modern trash mixed in. I don't mind digging some trash to get some goodies so the 3D suits me well. Both are good machines and will serve you well.
