I have tried every way I could to take a Macro of a coin and it just won't come out clear. Anybody out there that can help, I would appreciate it. Battery is charging now. I don't know anything about Digital cameras but this thing seems pretty simple or the instructions seem simple. :D: :D:  Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hold the camera as steady as possible(sometimes I use the back of a chair) about 4 or 5 inches away and take a few pics. If the coin is dark use a med to dark background. I like blues or reds. If its silver use a lighter background. To show you what I mean take a dark coin and hold it out in front of you and turn to different shades of backgrounds and see what happens. The lens in your camera works like the eye. I has to focus on something and let in the right amount of light for the overall picture.

Hi Tinfoil,
Read your manual. If you have a Macro setting use that. Also in the manual will be the closest distance that the camera can focus(in Macro and/or regular mode). If it is an SLR type camera then the distance should be on the lens. If it says a foot then anything closer than that will be blurry. Don't worry too much if the coin looks tiny in the frame. With the high mega pixel cameras out now, you should be able to get what you want by croping and sizing the picture once you get it into your computer. Hope this helps.

Bob gave good advise - use a dark background for dark coins.
