Good luck in the hunt!

I bought a tri-electronics GT3000 last year and it really opened my eyes on jewelry makers.

I bought it here

So much gold is under-karat. Just bought 3 pieces this weekend all marked 14K, I tested and they are really 13.5K, 12K & 12K I also find a lot of European and Japanese are right on mark 18K is 18K.

When buy gold I take the under-karat into consideration when offering a price. But I try to test first. I paid $122 for those pieces based on pre-testing, so I knew what I was getting. Then I wanted to see what the local competition would offer so I went to a jewelry store ($50) and a coin store ($87)

Tri-electronics does not advertise it but the 3000 can also test for sterling.
