I decided to dig pull tabs tonight

I've been avoiding pull tabs since I started detecting. My low nickel count and zero gold reflects it.

So tonight I went back to the park for a couple hours and hit the pull tabs. On my 6th or 7th target, I find this nice looking ring!! Yes, I've been over this spot several times and just didn't dig it. TID was 22. Unfortunately, it's plated.

BUT, I kept going until I couldn't stand it anymore. I did find a little clad, couple of wheats, a silver dime, and on my LAST target a 1908 quarter!!!!!:detecting: I've also been over THIS target before and didn't dig it because it was choppy and disappeared when I X'd it. I have found with the DD coil, I can find good stuff in between the iron junk...even without X'ing.

Ya gotta love those ladies! And the ring ain't bad either! Congrats on the sorting out the goodies! HH Randy

P.S.
You proved this today

That ring sure looks impressive,ah well at least you did your bit by cleaning out the rubbish.Hopefully there is another gold ring waiting there

Dear MT VertCaver,
Your story is indeed inspiring! I have avoided typical pull tab signals 18-24 range since these have proved to be trash 95% if the time in the parks that I hunt at least.

I love digging rings, even though I dig so few. It is not for lack of digging pulltabs or nickels. I get a twinge of excitement every time. I have not dug a Barber Q yet, Congrats.

I always dig the pull tab range if the TID is stable from all sides.

Have found three gold rings that way.

But don't get me wrong, I still dig a lot of pull tabs.

I find that the TID pull tab range that jump or change from different angles is always junk, pull tab or a piece of aluminum. So I now pass those by.

Good hunting

Good Tip Denny,
I have always avoided pull tab/can slaw TID's but will try your tip of swinging from different angles. I always wonder how many good finds I am missing by passing over pull tab targers.
Thanks

You have at last seen the light my friend LOL, you have to dig lots of :pulltab: these

to find some of these, may it be the first of many.

At the beach I found many aluminum pull tabs in ratio to one gold ring. It is a lot of work to find a gold ring with any detector sorting through trash with simular TID numbers. It is also a lot easier digging at the beach and also easier working in a team of two people with one digging & pinpointing for you while you are detecting also helps. Do any of you get your wife to do the digging & pinpointing? I guess as long as you switch places half the time.

I think the only way and only time we will ever tell the difference between pull tabs and gold rings is if in the future some manufacturer invents an imaging detector that shows us the detailed 'outline' of the target-object below the ground.
