I bought this high powered magnifying lens called a "Volk Pan Retinal Lens 2.2 ; this lens is used by opthalmologists to view the retina in back of the eye...I first came upon this lens during an eye exam some months ago. I asked the Dr. about it..he gave me the web site ..and although rather expensive, I just had to buy it...anyway...I forgot about this "mystery" coin until today. I re-examined it with this strong lens and to my astonishment I could make out the lettering"ONE CENT" and the date "1906"on the reverse; the obverse was more difficult, but I could outline some Latin letters similar to those I have seen on Great Britain coins . I found a web site and discovered that this is a Canadian cent. .King Edward VII on obverse.
The metallic composition of this coin is : 95% copper; 4% tin; 1%zinc.
I am so happy that I was able to finally identify this badly corroded coin...I really like it.
Thanks for reading this rather lengthy post.
