I found a real winner today folks.

It's the Coiltex 12x8 eliptical coil made for the Sovereign/Excalibur. I put this on my Excal and it's simply amazing in salt water. It goes really deep no falsing and pinpointing is right on unlike the NEL I bought a few months ago that simply would not work in salt water because of the constant falsing. Unfortunately this coil is not made any more according to Coiltek, but the dealer I got mine from still has two left. I'm on vacation in South Florida and already found my first gold ring with it on Anna Maria Island.

Mel,I have been watching this coil for a while, but haven't heard any feed backs on performance.Very much appreciated Thanks Ron

Mel.... all the coils are quiet right now with all this shifted sand. I run in PP as you know it can be a little more crazy when I start gettin to real hard pan.... thats when the gets good. Apparently thou its treating u just fine. Congrats on the gold. Just curios have you tried the NEL in these conditions? But couple of the CTX guys said the NEL didnt care much for the salrbwater.

Once the NEL hits the salt water it goes crazy, dosen't matter what mode your in or sensitivity setting.

If you don't mind, who is the dealer?

Mel..... i have to ask. I see you have a DF PI that you modified...... how or what were the modifications? Also, whats the NY Xcals look like..... are they the ones with the horseshoe coils? If so, how do they compare to the Xcal 1000?

Dew the PI mod is in the charging system. It has a bulk head connector that allows you to charger the Nimh batteries inside the unit. The NY Excals are also known as the Sword model with the horse shoe coil but all of mine have coil connectors on them so I can use any coil and I like them better than the Excal 1000. I'm back from my Florida trip

Well how bad did you hurt us? Get anymore of the yellow stuff? Fl hunting is about timing most of the time right now with all the new sand. I dont know if its as much about he who digs the most targets gets the most gold...... as he who puts in the most time gets the most gold. I know one guy i just cant teach. Hes been down here 2 years now and hunts 4 mos each year. Hes gotten one gold ring. Not because of bad equipment..... he has an Xcal with WOT and a CTX and puts in 3 or 4 hours. Hes just hard headed...... says he gets a lot of gold back home.

Hi Mel, thanks for the report on the Coiltex 12x8. How has it been holding up in the salt water? Do you still like the performance over the stock 10" Tornado?

thanks and happy hunting :detecting:

It's a great performer in the salt water but I have not used it in a while because I don't live near the ocean.
