Explorer went boom yesterday before I could use it!!!!! :rage:

I turned it on, pushed the manual/semi auto button to turn it on manual sensitivity, and then pushed the button to lower the sensitivity down, the third push my detector turned off. I figured my finger had pushed the off button by mistake, unfortunately that was not the case. Swapped out battery packs etc, it won't power on. My fingers smelled like burned electronics, and if I smell where the speaker is, I also get that strong odor.

GRRRR, I just got it back from Minelab not even a month ago after having them replace the processor board. I suppose that is the only good news as I shouldn't have to pay for the repair, I'm wondering if I could get compensated for the shipping. I don't think I can wait another 4-5 weeks to detect, seriously looking at purchasing another SE or perhaps an ETrac that would get to me faster.

You know my 5 year old wants a detector, perhaps this will be "his" detector if I bought it. Yeah, that's it, yeah, it's for my Son, the Wife should understand that right?!!?!

Well, I'll be living vicariously through you all for a while, keep me entertained!!

right the wife will surly understand good sound man logic like that even thuogh the 5 year old can,t swing the detector great muscle building for a growing boy lol yes she should see the logic

hehe, actually, he goes detecting with me now, I bring him to tot lots. He does fairly well, however, my SE has an X-1 probe on it, and I have the 10X12SEF coil on it. It's a bit bigger than him, just thinking that something without such a huge battery and control housing may be easier for him to detect with.

I intend on spending every cent I have found detecting on his new detector. He'll be 6 in July, so I think that's a pretty good age for places other than tot lots.

I'm seriously thinking about finding out what sort of deal Kellyco will swing if I bought a new SE or eTrac, I'd get that bogo discount of $140 off.

Jai,

I think mine went bad too over nite. I just got this XS less than 2 weeks ago. Used it a handful of times. My wife told me this morning one of my tectors must be on somewhere because she hears moaning. I figured it had to be one of the units with knobs that someone may have bumped and turned on.

Sure enough, it was the only one that moans, the XS.

I couldnt shut it off via the touch pad, I had to remove the battery.

When I reinstalled the battery and pressed ON it turned on and went to Factory Presets as if someone was holding the button in so my hunch is the on/off button in the touch pad went bad.

Now, if I am lucky, maybe one press in 50 might turn the unit on till it resets and then shuts off.

A few days ago, I noticed too while tecting that the unit shut off. I figured somehow I must have been the one shutting it off by accident. It came right back on but noticed the newly charged battery was already below half power after maybe 15 mins use.

Did you get yours repaired? What was it? cost? how long?

I just got this thing and already seemingly major troubles!

Thanks for sharing the info

Tony

I have really taken an interest in the Minelab SE Pro, but I see some of the problems associated with them and you want another Minelab as a back up. I see the advantage of these detectors but I have always used Whites and loved their detectors. They rarely have problems but when they do, you can bet they fix them right and the turn around time is fast fast fast and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Now back to the SE Pro, how problematic are they? Because I really want to buy one. Thanks for any help.

Explorer SE has a bit lower quality boards than xs or 2, its the same like quatro and possible now like safari.Jai very sad to hear that your new boards is dead  still not have time to try your old boards-hope they will not burn quickly as your new . Let us know what was wrong? Stasys

Sorry to hear about your explorer  but if you want to slide one past the Mrs. you'll have to come up with a better con than that. What would Ralph Cramdon do?

Best of luck to you

I have owned an Explorer II and just this year bought the SE Pro at Kellyco and did get a BOGO, Viper under water detector.

I really love the SE Pro and have had no trouble. My friend did by the Etac. He enjoys this as well. I believe personally the SE Pro is a better deal for the extra saving of $400 over the Etrac.

I would definitely get a new detector and put aside the used ones. The silver you find with the new Pro would hopefully pay for itself in a few years.

GOOD LUCK
