So UPS showed up today while I was at work. I got home and promptly tore into the package. WEE! I was so excited. I watched the little DVD (kinda) while I put my new Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 together. Packed up the kids just before sundown and rushed over to the park. Mind you its hard to keep from being distracted what with a 1 year old a 3 year old and a 5 year old but we got out, went to the sandy part of the little lake area, and put the 505 to work. Right off the bat BEEP! We all huddled around the little area the kids and I all grinning haha it was classic. Dug through the sand an VOILA! There was a quarter... my first find woohoo! So needless to say at this point I'm totally hooked haha. We only got to be out there for little less than an hour but we found some little items here and there. The quarter was our most valuable find but hey... Its all good. Gives me something to shoot for next time. Here are the pictures of my professional tools and my bountiful loot!

[attachment 155271 IMG_8591-1.jpg] Theses are my Professional tools. <3 the Colander, Its great for a sand scoop. Since I was on the "beach" it came in real handy.

[attachment 155272 IMG_8605-1.jpg] Here's my treasure. 27 cents. Only $199.63 left to pay off the 505! Ha! A very fine assortment of pull tabs. 1 piece of aluminum foil wrapping. And what I suspect to be the wire from some old glasses.

[attachment 155273 IMG_8606-1.jpg] And finally, the shoes. We dug these up near a pull tab. The kids and I got a good laugh outta this one.

So this was my first adventure. I cant wait to go alone and actually get down to the nitty-gritty of tuning my machine and learning how to detect. All in all my first time ever Metal Detecting was a huge blast and to me a success. Well thanks for bearing with my excitement and God bless! Until next time.

I bet the kids had lots of fun to. Good luck with your new detector.

Nice Sunbeard....I know you all had fun out detecting and playing! Quarters are always nice to find because the add up to $$ faster and I hope you get to go by yourself and be able to concentrate on hunting the hidden goodies with your detector! I guess you can probably wash the sandles in the washing machine and then after dried, maybe give them to someone they would fit! :) May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Well Sunbeard ... It looks like you're up and running. First you'll walk - Then you'll run - One day & one step at a time.

So glad to hear you shared the time with the kids.
One tip for ya. Don't take that shovel to anywhere public. That will make people take interest in you in a bad way in a hurry. Sovels in parks, schools, etc.. paint our hobby in a bad light. Also be sure that you holes look as good as it did before you dug them.
I know the crew here will agree.
Congrats again and go get some more!

Glad you are enjoying the hobby. It is a lot of fun and you will find many treasures, just be patient. There is a lot of good advice to be found here. Like Mike said, the big shovel sometimes puts the wrong image into some people. There are people out there that don't like us digging around. A small garden tool or a digging tool like a Lesche will do you fine. Sometimes a larger shovel is needed but try and use it away from the public eye. Keep us posted on your finds. You are doing good.

Nice for your first time out. Now you will be like the rest of us eat , think, and dream of detecting. Every old house I see i want to detect.

I smiled all the way through your post! So glad it finally arrived and you were able to get out with it.

Mike is right, if you go onto a park, school and any public grounds with a larger shovel....you most likely will be told off by someone who sees it, whether you are digging or not and will report you and then will either be told to leave then or at a later time, when officials catch you! Soooo.....use a small shovel that is easier to hold and in your hand and doesn't make a very big hole but if the hole is dug....shallow or deeper....be sure the dirt is put back and the grass or plug is replaced and pressed in as best as you can to make it look neat like before you started digging! The small shovels are easy to hold and carry with you while swinging your detector...the larger shovel would be okay when digging larger objects and relics in places where you have permission ahead of time...like farms and private Civil War sites! Keeps getting tougher for having places for :detecting: so every caution counts to not make yourself noticeable out there!

May God Bless and Happy Hunting for the hidden coins and treasures! Amen! Ma Betty
