I Got Me A Brand Spanking New Eldorado uMax Delivered Today:smile:

Well, it's almost brand new. You'd be hard pressed to tell it from a new one. It's just perfect in every respect. The seller said that he had only used it a few times before putting it into a closet for the last 5 years or so. I like the tone on it better than I do on my Vaquero and Bandido II uMax. I can't wait to take it out for a test run.:detecting:

Tesoro makes the best detectors on planet Earth.

always wanted to try one

I got mine in late October and it's pretty much retired the at pro. Nothing wrong with the ATP, I just learned to like the quiet stability of the El. I hit some wheat pennies at an old school this weekend that had about 4" of caliche spread back in the early 90s over the parking area.

Congrats Tabman
Getting a like new Tesoro is one of life's joys.
Like a 10yr old boy getting a new Daisy BB Gun.

one of the most versatile Tesoro models they ever made, and without a lot of excess stuff. It has a full-range of Disc. acceptance (Tesoro's true ED-180 or Zero as some call it) and I used to rely on my Eldorado to out-hunt, and hunt deeper, than the Tej

Monte, I bought a Eldorado (uMax style) awhile back with the 7 inch concentric coil, because you recommended that combination so highly. It really worked great and was a dream to swing. I traded it off, because I thought having both the Bandido II uMax and Eldorado along with my Vaquero was a little too much of almost the same thing, so I traded the Eldorado. After a short while after I traded the Eldorado, my hearing changed to the point that I could not tolerate high pitched sounds. Go figure. My Bandido II uMax and Vaquero were both high tones. I sent my Vaquero back to Tesoro and had it changed from a high pitch to a low pitch ( I wonder if I'm the first to ever do that:)). I was told they could not change my Bandido II uMax to a low pitch, so I have decided to sell it. When I saw this almost new Eldorado for sale, I jumped on it super fast before someone else did. I really enjoy trying different detectors. Thank you for all your recommendations. They were all good ones.

There's not much to dislike about the Eldo. I've done well with mine. It'll stay in my arsenal for sure when I'm trading or selling others.

I just bought a used one as well. I was wondering if I might have an issue. When you are running in all metal mode and switch to disc mode does the unit ever stay in all metal or does it immediately switch back to disc mode? I sometimes have to toggle the switch a couple of times or lift the coil higher into the air (tilting the control unit back in the process) to switch back into disc mode. I have not noticed the problem going from disc to all metal.

Thanks,
Alex

That doesn't sound right to me. Have you ever used a metal detector before? You should call Tesoro and tell them what's happening. It might be that you don't have something set just right. They will take the time to walk you through what you need to do. 928-771-2646

I went back to the original owner today. We confirmed together that the switch was not working correctly. He decided he would send it in to Tesoro for repair. In the meantime he offered to let me play around with his White's Coin Pro, since his new AT Pro was coming in today. He has been great about the whole thing and insisted on paying the shipping costs to Tesoro. So in the end I should be assured that the Tesoro is in tip-top shape and I get a little experience on another MD.

I took my new Eldorado to the woods yesterday to do some detecting to see how it would do. I found a couple of wheat pennies, a bullet, an old drawer pull base, a dog tag and a couple of old foreign coins. One was from France and the other one was from Mexico. I'd post some pictures but I have them soaking in olive oil. The Eldorado worked flawlessly. It ran super quiet with no false signals. I had the sensitivity set to the max, the discrimination setting was set to just below iron, and the threshold was set to a very soft hum. I hunting in the discrimination mode and switched to all metal mode and gave it a few pumps from time to time to check to see if it was ground balanced property. I was amazed that the old coins were only a few inches deep under the leaf mold. Maybe they don't sink as fast in the woods.

Here are some pictures of the woods and a shallow coin.

Hey tabman,

If you don't like it and not completely satisfied with it, I'll buy (pry) it from you ; - ) Hee!

I had a nice day in the woods today with my new Eldorado. I was looking for silver, but it evaded me today. It's just a matter time, before I find the silver. However, I did find some horseshoes, an old shovel handle, an old knife, 2 tokens, some modern coins, a key, a 1923 wheat penny, and a Carhartt heart pen. I also found a bullet, but I lost it.:)
