I did some research on the internet and found this to be a Japanese 5 yen coin..other information that I learned is as follows:
The obverse of the coin has three significant symbols : grain of rice ( agriculture) : water (fisheries) ; gear around center ( industry)
The reverse stamping is written in "Kanji" and across the center on either side are trees ( forestry); above the tree symbols is the word "Japan";
below the trees is the date, but I don't know how to interpret this. the final photo I have posted is of a 1971 five yen, and which shows two symbols of the date that correspond to two symbols in the date of the coin that I found....anyone know how to interpret Kanji? I couldn't find it anywhere on the net.
Thanks for looking at my find.
