I Had A Bad Experince

Hello everyone I am just like all of you out here in the metal detecting world that are in this hobby to have fun and get some exercise and some relaxation. The other day
I had called up chuck marcum at Indian Metal Detectors and wanted to buy an xterra 705 rain dust cover for my 705.Well long and behold he found one for me he told me
it would cost $15.00 I said ok Is this dust cover new or used he told me it was used and then he said he did not know how much they went for and then I told him minelab sells them new for $42.00.The next day I called chuck back and said I had found one for ten dollars used in good shape I then asked him could you explain to me If I was
going to buy your dust cover for my xterra 705 could you explain to me in detail how much it would actually cost me and he told me this.Well first he would have to charge
me $15.00 for the rain dust cover, then he would have to charge me $2.00 S/H,and then he would have to charge me $.75 cents for the envelope to send it in,and then if
that was not bad enough he would have to charge me for the price of a gallon of gas just to go to the post office to send me the package.I know times are hard but the
companies who make these detectors and that are asking rediculious prices for these detectors and then you get these dealers who want to charge you a big price and
wont give you any breaks either I just dont get it I thought this was just suppose to be a hobby not a get rich scheme I just wanted you all to know how I felt about all of
this.It is really hard to find a dealer out there anymore that will give you a break and take good care of you and treat you right and not one that is trying to get rich off of
someone......

Not sure why you mentioned the $10 find. Unless you were obligated to the dealer you should have purchased that one.

$15 used cover: S&H is fair-BUT it sounds like he wants to charge you twice (for S&H). Deal breaker IMO.

I would of told you to go ahead and get the $10 one. Chuck has to give at least $30 his cost for a cover. Everything Minelab has gone up and the used market has to adjust to the cost. Come on, whats 5 or 10 bucks anyways. I have done business with Chuck several times with no problems. Dealers have enough problems competing with internet prices as it is because of taxes. Either you pay the local tax or you pay shipping. The old "Free Shipping" is a joke, the dealer has to take that off the top in his deal to you, so it is included in the final cost. This hobby is like any other one like Bass Fishing or Hunting, it costs money to play. Just use a sandwich bag over your control head and hunt..........MO

I have never dealt with Chuck but have heard good things about him. Even at the price he is asking it is still alot cheaper than buying new from Minelab. I am not a dealer but if I was and someone asked me the price of something I would say X amount of dollars shipped to you, I wouldn't go into details breaking everything down, makes it look like the seller is making more than they actually are. A person should take into condsideration everything that goes into getting a detector to us, especially shipping ( it is alot more expensive than it used to be).

I have bought two detectors from Chuck .. my Minelab Explorer and my Garrett AT Pro. I received excellent deals on both in my opinion ... and he is even willing to do payment plans if that is what you need. Which is how I was able to afford the Explorer. I tend to believe that it's harder to turn a profit on accessory-type sales. I have nothing but good things to say about Chuck.

Chuck has always been good to me. One of the nicest guys I have ever dealt with. Super honest, and helpful.

I have done business with Chuck and have had nothing but great service. Normally when he has priced anything to me it is shipped. All this for $15.00? What am I missing? If you called him and he said $15.00 why didn't you jump on it? That is a bargain. Sounds like you were just trying to get a better deal, like free. Why did you keep shopping when you got a good deal then call back to rub his nose in your new best price? I'll keep buying from Chuck and forget the Ebay bargains as they are not what they appear to be. If you could get one for $10. shipped they would be loosing money, a dealer needs to make profit or this forum will be gone when they stop being able to pay to sponsor. How much profit do you think he would make on you at $15.00?

If anyone had a bad experience from this it is Chuck! Slandering his good name you're the one who asked him if he (could you explain to me in detail how much it would actually cost me and he told me this.)

If this were true with what you're saying, The meter cover would have cost you around $22.00 shipped. You asked so he explained in detail, And you had already told him you found one elsewhere yet you still ask Chuck to explain in detail how much it would actually cost.

I hope we never crossed paths on a metal detector transaction, If we do remind me who you are so I can ran in the other direction.

I hope you do what's right and apolized to Chuck, Chucks a fine man.

This thread reminds me of the time I helped my aunt at her garage sale. One of the small items she was selling was a hand braided necklace that had a dime braided into it as a pendant. It was marked for sale for 10 cents, but some woman approached me and asked if I would take a nickel for it. Seriously? It had a real life dime in it and she wanted it for 5 cents!

I have made several purchases from Indian Nation Detectors and all have been flawless and the items were very competitively priced. I would highly recommend Indian Nation to anyone looking to buy a detector or accessories!

That is the cost of doing business. On the used market it is easy to ignore the cost of fuel. My daily driver gets 15 mpg. I pay attention if I am having to make a trip to ship. That comes out of my pocket. If I was doing this for a living I would pay attention to every single thing I did (time is $) and everywhere I went (so is fuel). Truth is 2.00 S/H is pretty reasonable.

Chuck Marcum at Indian Nation detectors is an honest dealer sounds like he quoted you a good price for the dust cover but you got lucky and found one for $10

Chuck has always made me good deals!! He has to make some money in the transaction...

you would spend the difference on a pack of crackers and some drinks just going out on a hunt. as soon as all the independents go out then we will be left to the mercy of the big box stores. any tv thing you see has shipping and handling and PROCESSING ETC. i saw a $10 item cost $42 total once. If Paul (CA) vouches for him, thats all i need!
