This is nothing new to you guy's who have mastered the Sovereign, but to me it is priceless and maybe it will help other's who are new with the Sovereign. I had a couple of hour's to kill today so I decided to go over to a fairground's that is about 15 minutes away. A few year's ago this is where I have found "V" nickles and a SLQ and other old stuff, but like most public sites there just isn't much stuff left. When I got there I decided to try the less obvious place's. The first signal I dug was a silver heart off of a necklace minus the chain. Good start but that was it for quite awhile, when I got a broken signal with a higher tone to it. When I turned 90 degrees to check from another direction the machine nulled out, as I circled the target I got that broken high tone again. I then decided it wasn't worth digging probably a piece of iron faking me out. I took two steps away from it when I remembered everybody's advice and even my own rule, That is dig all high tones if it get's your attention. I went back and tried again with the same result's except this time I got the meter to climb to 180 even though it was only for a split second and the tone became smoother although only from one small direction. I dug the plug and out comes a nail (that gives a reason for the null) but at the bottom of the hole was one of those round packed pieces of dirt that a coin leaves when it's disturbed from it's resting place. I checked the loose dirt and there lies a 1953-D wheat (the reason for the high tone and the 180 on the meter). The lesson's were
1. If it's a high tone, dig it. It may not be a nice even tone , it may be a broken signal with a high tone but just dig it.
2.Approach any iffy signal's from multiple directions, until you are satisfied with what the machine is telling you.
3.Trust your machine and your first intuition's. When I first heard the high tone, that should have been enough to make me dig but for some reason I walked away.
4.This machine really does find stuff in iron, just like everybody said it would.
One last thought, if you are new with a sovereign and feel the frustration's setting in,JUST KEEP GOING it only takes one or two good trips to put you on the right path . My last two trip's have been real eye opener's for me. I don't have all the knowledge I need yet but I have gained a huge amount of confidence (with some knowledge) and I know I can now go out and be able to recognize some iffy signal's as good target's.
Good hunting, Gary
