I had my SE with the FBS 1050 coil out on a town green today.

I had power lines over head in two different directions and all kinds of interference around me.
I ran the SE as you would the Explorer II. Noise cancel on the ground like the XS. You know the routine, maxed my sen. to about 28 and Gain at 7.
I scrubbed the ground like the old days and had a ball. No problems at all.
This is changing the slimline with the stock Explorer II coil. As far as the weight difference, I scrubbed the ground with all the Explorers until the SE. Even the manual says not to scuff the ground too much with the SE. That and the wet grass problem should have rung somebodies Bell.
"Bad Coil" "Bad Coil" But it is one that can readily be fixed. And then you'll have a World Class Machine.

I have heard of others using the EX 2 coil on their SE'S . I think if i could get hold of an 10.5 coil i would find it better on some sites...

I hear some are not happy with the SE coil,but I love mine on my SE. This is the third SE I have used with the stock coil and everyone I can turn the sensitivity higher and have no falsing either. One of the guys I hunt with has a EX II and I let him use my SE with the stock coil to see what he thought. He get a signal with the SE then try the EX II with the stock coil and found the SE gave a cleaner signal and a bit louder than the EX II with the stock coil, what ever the SE could see the EX II could too, but not as loud or clear. Now I am wondering if some did have a bad coil, or is it something else.
With the XS and the EX II I could run sensitivity at 20-24 most of the time in manual with the SE I have been running as low as 22 and as high as 30 manual and doing OK with not real any falsing. I run iron mask at 30 and ferrous tones and listening to everything and sometimes I have to go to my big T pattern when it is real trash with pull tabs.
Like I say I like the SE and the stock coil better than any other Explorer I have used.

I got to agree with Rick, My stock coil works great on my SE, exept when I bump a stump or something. My XS done the samething though. Other than that no problems. I guess some of them just got a bad coil. I am just going to have to fork out a couple of hundred bucks for a smaller coil and see if i notice any big difference. Ive heard to many complaints about the stock coil. Maybe im missing something. only one way to find out for sure.

That's the reason I didn't buy the SE. Allot of people that I know have tried the SE ( some two or three different SE's ) ,and came up with the same findings you did . Hope (ML) they fix the problem . Guess I'll keep using my EX2 and wait until the EX3 comes out .

I have not even seen an SE, but from the photos and from what I have read, I am disappointed that it appears that in the interest of reducing the weight that most complained about that they came out with a thinner, not as sturdy of a coil, similar to the thinner coils White's use that scared me when I saw them.

Well, One thing I can say about the original XS and its coil, I have almost 7 years use, and it is hard use of beating the bushes and trees and my original stock coil is hanging in there and in one piece yet! Somehow I don't think I would ever be able to say that with the new SE coil, that I don't think will stand up to the test of time........................

I hope by the time I upgrade from the original XS, that the current coil being manufactured by Minelab goes bye bye. I will take weight and durability over flimsy anyday................
