I have been watching the posts on the Ace 250 for some time now. The notching and ID segments must have chosen by Garretts marketing people. There are 12 segments but too many are wasted on high coins so that there is little resolution left for ID'ing trash targets.
Going thru the posts I have noted many where if you eliminate a certain trash target you loose coins also, that should not be! With 12 segments available they should have only used 2, maybe 3 for Id'ing high coins that would have left more segments available for better resolution on trash targets. It's easy to see that the whole idea behind the display was to lure people into thinking you will get more silver rather than giving real useful info.
Fisher definitely got it right on the Excel by using a range of ID #'s instead of notch zones. I found that you can really trust it on most targets to determine trash from treasure.

It might be over on Garrett's forums but not here
But, thanks for letting us know more about it. Maybe you do get what you pay for??....

Actually field tested the Ace for Garrett, yes I'm a Garrett user and just added coinstrike in the fall to my arsenal. Its a great value machine and the ace's have always got good depth silver coins airtest at 8-12 inches , half dime- silver dollar, I agree though 100%, but I think the reason was these entry machines are going to be used in parks/schools where coins are more plentiful than the relic fields most of us hardcore's hunt.

Hi Rod,
I agree that most of those machines will be used in the scenerios you described and that is exactly why they should have arranged the segments better to help the casual coin shooter out a bit in the fight against trash.
