Why were so many civil war battles fought in the national parks?

I do not think they were national parks back then. I could be wrong. Another thing in my humble opinion is warfare back then did not rely on stealth and being hidden as much as we do now days. I dont know just a guess, I guess.

locals wouldn't let them use their property. The
only places available were government owned
areas. Hence, the national parks. rr

It`s because you have to have a battle on neutral ground!

I thought it was because if you held the battles in international parks, it would be a World War

Cuz,
Its true, and for many reasons, men killing each other can be kind of messy, bodies, gun parts etc. But permits were obtained and paid for in the worst kind of currency their is. So lets all be mindful of what they mean to each of us. I've dug up campfires where i could tell where people were sitting, its sorta spooky but I love it.

The answer is kind of obvious. Anyone that has swung a detector in any park knows that it is socially acceptable to leave metal and junk everywhere. What better place is there to leave smoldering ruins than in a park?

the answeres made me laugh harder then when i saw this in a mag, stupid questions asked to liberians, oh well you can tell winters here
