I bet you knew that also. When it jumps in between segments that is telling me it is really a segment in between the two. The target is not of either one, but a segment of its own. I love it when it jumps in between nickel and foil. That is the segment where ladies rings hit on. When it jumps between nickel and pull tab that is a sure bet it is pull tab and not a nickel. I know it could be a hunker of a gold ring.
Numerical ID detectors jump around a lot more than the Ace, but that doesn't mean they ID better. The Ace is steadier on its ID and give a cleaner ID read out. If it hangs on a segment that jumps again it is telling me something. Of course that jump from iron to high silver means rusty iron. A jump from iron to cent means a deep cent. That is the one I find most of my deep wheat's on.
The point I am getting at is the Ace is not limited to 12 segments. It gives much more information than 12 segments. So when somebody says it only has 12 segments of target ID they are wrong.
When we get use to a detector, we learn its language. Of course detectors speak different languages. We learn one language and think another detector is no good because we haven't learned it's language. Learn the language of the Ace it has a lot to tell you.
