about the czs, excals, and Mr. Fosters detectors but where are all the Sandsharkers? I bought one last year to try beach hunting and am starting to think I am a rare species of Tesoro swinger. At the time it seemed to offer the most for the buck. Experienced users please tell me the good as well as the bad. PI Experts, What is you thoughts on the guts of this detector and how it compares to its competition. I also have an Explorer and am starting to think after reading several posts what the hell is the point of having a pulse. Should I drop the PI or would that be a stupid mistake. Thanks for all help givin. btw the beach I hunt has a bit of trash but nothing considerable.

Thanks Bill! I forgot to mention I have the 10.5 inch coil which helps out the depth quite a bit. I think its comparable to the mid range PI detectors and good enough to keep for atleast another year. I don't have a lot of time on it or at the beach so maybe I'll get a supprise when I really give it a shot. Above all else the Explorer and I swim like rocks so with the water proof housing one of us would survive. Gotta get me one good gold ring this year. Come on spring.

C.C.
Do you have the 10.5" coil on the Sandshark ?
If so you might want to do a little testing with it on low conductive jewelry, like small rings. When I had my many Piranha PI units, they suffered a lot going to the 10.5" coil on sensitivity toward small gold items. The 8" coil was always much more sensitive. I haven

Very interesting and something that concerns me. To answer your question yes it is the 10.5 on the Shark. How should I go about testing coil to coil? I bought the big coil becouse I wanted depth but if it loses sens. its no good to me. The Explorer is very stable on the beach but can it hit small gold and chains like a decent pulse? I guess what I'm trying to say is why use my shark if the Explorer will see 99% of all targets the Tesoro would.
ps The Explorer kills the small Sandshark coil for depth.

You are very fortunate to have an Explorer that will hit chains. My friend and I both bought an Explorer within days of each other and from different sources. Neither would hit a gold chain, neither would sound off on a gold chain if you rubbed the chain on the coil. My friend bought the 8" coil later and it still would not hit chains....You are very forunate. But in truth my Excalibur will not hit chains and my two CZ20's will not hit chains....but my friends $160 Tesoro Comprade will tear them up and I understand Terry's Aquastar (PI) will hit chains. I like chain finding....Frank

Install the 8" coil, and test it with a item that it doesn

My CZ20,Excaliber, and Explorer do not work on most chains. They will pick up the clasp under the right conditions. I don't have a lot of detector electronic engineering knowledge, but I've noticed other than pulse machines, the ones that pick up fine gold usually aren't very sucessfull in salt beach conditions, especially where there's any depth required. I'm planning on getting an Aqua Star II for my beach gold(and diamond) hunting in the near future, because there's nothing better than the glimmer of gold in a scoop.

That little Tesoro Compadre will not work around saltwater or the wet sand....Don't know about the dry sand so it is useless for me but it was shocking to see a $160 dollar unit fire off on the gold chains without medallions on them. You are correct on the Explorer also from my experience. I figure in the future there are some advances in PI's that Mr. Foster will figure out and manufacture, the present stock ain't bad...Frank

sorry for the confusion but I was asking if the Explorer would hit just as much as my pulse. If so there would be no reason to keep the pulse. If yours doesn't detect chains then I doubt mine will so the pulse it is...for the first week anyway.

Frank,
When they first came out I watched a Compadre used in a search for a diamond stud earring. I was amazed that it hit on the remaining earring use for a test. It will work on a salt beach as long as you stay away from the wet part.
Mr.Bill

Well that really leaves me out as I don't want to be hunting on the dry sand unless the waves are 3 to 4 feet high or higher and then I stick to the wet. But you have to admit for a $160 dollar simple detector it is a terror....Will most likely get one or two for my grandkids to use...Frank
