I just tried that same test on the video with my SE

with the rusty nails, and was surprised it did just as well as the one in the video, even with the fast sweep speed. only thing was the tone was lower than normal, but so isnt the etrac.. now this was with the pro coil and didnt try it with any other yet... so maybe its the coil and not the machine, or maybe as long as the rusty nails are parallel on each side any explorer can do it... whole different story when hitting from 90 degrees or nails are laid perpendicular to the coin.. So anyway I bought an etrac today, so next weekend I will take it out and rejoice or cry :)

I had one on hold, but backed out. I'm just not convinced.

Glad to see you jumped in head first and I will reconsider after you tested it a bit.

maybe you can buy mine when I am done with it :) I shoulda just stuck with my explorer II.. SE didnt make any noticable difference that I can see either... except its black :) I hate its pinpointing.. much prefered the XS & II's pinpointing.. But if I keep the etrac I guess the II will go, simply because I still have 3 years warranty on the SE...

you know I wasnt much of a stock coil user... but since getting the pro coil I have had it on pretty much all the time... only negative I see is the amount of falsing I am getting on the edge of the coil...not really falsing I guess, just picking up targets on the edge of the coil sometimes sound like coins till you get them under the center, but other than thats is light and stable and pretty darn good in trash separation for such a big coil..

I tried it with my SE Pro and it hits it also. First I tried it with my Advantage which I thought would hit it and it did so I tried the SE and it did. I got a buddy who is getting an Etrac, I will wait and see what hes got to say about it.

I know that you are really only pinpointing along one axis with a DD coil, but some other DDs are said to have a "sweet spot" that can help in pinpointing - giving a signal that can still be peaked as you move the coil toward or away from you. Any sign of this with the ProCoil?

I have a heck of a time pinpointing in pinpoint mode with the SE period.. I find I do better just using the disc mode and x'ing the target from 90 degrees... with all my coils... the II with its simple blip seemed much easier.. and not as much washout from nearby targets.. maybe they put that mode back into the etrac... but not sure from the video

gotta hope something is better... starting to sound worse the more I hear about it.. I am not sure who all Minelab goes to when they discuss new machines, but sure wish they would ask people who actually use them what to and not to change

Thanks for responding, guys. Two different views suggests that pinpointing could be an issue. I know the 90 degree method should work well, unless you're in a foot of murky water, for instance. Trying to get a feeling on this - perhaps I should start a new thread?

I have the Pro coil on my XS and correct me if I'm wrong fellows, but as with most DD coils by Minelab the sweet spot is in the center. I have no problem pinpointing with this coil by just doing the short back and forth wiggle and gradually bringing the coil back towards my feet. Most of the time my target is right in front of the leading edge of the coil when the pinpoint goes silent. HH.

Thanks, Eddie, that's just the kind of information I wanted to pin down. I am looking at a big buying decision this week and without forums like this one I'd really be in the dark.

I have posted a demo video taken yesterday and it shows how the E-Track can pluck a coin from the middle of a bunch of nails, screws etc. Also could still detect the coin even when all the nails and screws where pointing inwards to the coin.

The coin is an old UK shilling

That's what this forum is all about helping each other out. I didn't make the leap to the SE or the E-Trac. I just got the Pro coil and as long as these new coils work on my old XS then I'll go the cheapest route. I have a long, long ways to even come close to James ND and he kicks butt with his XS. HH.

It's a matter of physics. The explorers can seen a coin and nail right on top of each other as long as the nail doesn't completely cross the center web hot spot. It will give a lower tone in ferrous, Usually hits top of screen but more to the left, classic mixed coin/iron hit.

My F-75 which is much faster processor supposedly hits the same, but instead of showing coin will also hit lower, except with only one axis/number you have no idea if it is a coin with iron or just trash.

Hey Eddie,

I've pinpointed the same way with all three Explorer models (using all different coils) and it works well for me too. I do you the SE pinpointing feature to size up the target after I've pinpointed it.

I agree.

When the XS came out i found lots of milled silver in iron and under iron, on top of iron.

It can still do the same thing, many that still post here know this for a fact.

What it lacked was the same ability towards lower conductors.

i think maybe that is much better on the E-trac.
