I Love Minus Tides Days

Hope this post helps some of the newer beach hunters on the forum.
The local tide predictions listed back to back days of -1.7 tides.
That meant that if you waited until about 90 minutes before
the low tide turned, you'd find virgin wet sand to detect. I detect on heavily hunted beaches
so it's important to find an edge.
I setup behind a high end hotel on a cold rainy day and started getting hit after hit. This was on wet sand that
would probably be neck deep or more with a normal low tide. Plenty of coins, 2 pairs of sunglasses and a silver earring
kept me optimistic, And then.....(see picture) It's 18K white gold with close to a one caret diamond center stone.
I traded to my wife for 3 open face hotdog sandwiches and a hot cup of tea. I drive a hard bargain.

You must be located in England:ukflag: somewhere because of the year, day and month layout? also the "hot cup of tea" part LOL!! Anyway, that is an awesome ring and truly a jaw-dropper!! a big congrats!!!! You shouldn't have showed it to your wife though:lol:

Great find and you're right about the tides.Good trade as well, three hot dog sandwiches and a cup of tea sounds good to me.

PS,as long as they had brown sauce all over them.:)

That's awesome! You are right about finding an edge, being able to hunt that area that no one wading had been able to hit before. I recon stilts are the way forward...

What a monster! Beauty find!:surprised: Sounds like you had a good day overall!

Never liked coffee. My wife makes the best tea ever. Better than most desserts.
Today is a -1.6 low tide so I'll drag these old bones out to the beach for a 3rd day in a row.
Only found $1.69 and a junk earring on day one.
Better picture of the ring uploaded.
BTW, I live not far from Florida.

Wonderful find on the ring. I've lived by the ocean several times, but never kept up with the tides. My dispatcher always told me when to catch a boat or chopper when I worked in the oil field and when I lived in PCB, Fl, I worked 7 days a week and didn't do any fishing or metal detecting. When you look at the tide tables in the paper, do they have the minus mark on the table? Let's see if I got this right, you wait about 90 minutes before the low tide ends and head for shore when the hide tide starts or am I totally confused again?

During the "donor months" (May until the end of September) I arrive an average of 3 hours after high tide. This time of year, the beaches that I detect on are so over hunted
that I need unusual tide activity that open runnels in order to get lucky. I keep my eye on the tide predictions every month. A normal low tide will be indicated as 0.0.
The low tides here for the past 3 days have been as much as -1.7 !! Can't remember minus tides like that. Without looking at future tide charts, I'd guess that I'll have to wait a very long time before I see minus tides like that again.
What I was saying is this: At about 90 minutes before a -1.7 low tide the receding water is about at 0.0. Then nature give us a bonus by uncovering wet sand that hardly ever is exposed.
So, I ignore the wet sand that is usually exposed in favor of the wet sand that is rarely exposed. It's a plan that increases your odds of finding a treasure because it was simply too far out for the small army of people detecting the beach. Two out of the 3 days I found only clad and 2 earrings. That other day was memorable.

That is one beauty of a ring.. My wife would have just taken it and said hunt some more.. No snacks or drinks... KEN
