I was wondering if there were a button "bible" book , like the "Civil War Projectiles II - Small Arms & Field Artillery by W. Reid McKee and M.E Mason Jr." that covers U.S. & C.S buttons ????

Any ideas ?
Thanks,

"Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons" by Alphaeus H. Albert, known to most "The Albert's Book". Also a great addition to that would be "American Military Button Makers and Dealers: Thier Backmarks & Dates" by William F. McGuinn and Bruce S. Bazelon.

Another great book is Warren Tice's "Uniform Buttons of the United States, 1776-1865." Albert's is a great book - the original button "bible." Tice's book is more recent and adds to Albert's as well as corrects some misidentifications.

Perhaps one of the leading Civil War button persons is Dan Binder, who is a member of the civilwarcollect listserv (cwcollect.com to join). He is answered a few of my button questions over the years. He writes almost monthly for North South Trader magazine.
