I pulled the trigger and bought a new Deleon!

I have been wanting to try a VDI machine for some time, I heard some good things about Garrett's AT Pro. But after talking to some members and researching I stayed with Tesoro and got a Deleon, I hear only good about the machine, with the At Pro first generation detector had problems. I hear the second generation is right on the money. I called Garrett and asked them if I had a AT Pro out of warranty and the main circuit board went out what would it run to fix, they told me around $200 bucks. Now it may never go out, but if it does I could think of many things I could spend $200 on besides a board! Tesoro stands behind their products and that means the world to me, I talked to Rusty Henry and he told me they were fixing 30 year old machines for free to people who were the original owners. From now on it's only Tesoro for me! I know everyone is wanting the new Cazador, to me if a company is waiting and not releasing the product so it can be right is a company to keep.
They could hurry and get the product out with problems and sell a million, what then you really won't be happy with the detector you paid hard earned cash with. Just think you get a Lifetime Warranty, Wow how can you beat them! Just my 2 Cents. If any Deleon owners have any tips for me on tuning please feel free to put them on here.

Hey Ken, I am envious! The Deleon is next on my list, or maybe another Tiger Shark. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and listen to all the hype and try another brand. I have refused to do it because my Tesoro's just work so well and are successful for me. It just doesn't make sense to switch when what you are using works so well.

I can give you some tips on that Deleon, but you have to send it to me to use for a couple of months, then I will have some tips for you!

Keep us posted on your results and findings!

Congratulations on purchasing Tesoro's sleeper machine. In my opinion, the Deleon is the best machine Tesoro makes. I've had quite a few, and the Deleon is the only one I use now. Even my Tejon is gathering dust.

Here is a tip: Learn the audio. I think it's the sweetest tone of all the machines I've had. A coin is very smooth, aluminum is more harsh. Once you learn the tone, then start looking at the display.

Expect to find silver with your Deleon. I found a '49 dime in my front boulevard that no other machine found. I've been over that small area with every machine I've had in the last 17 years. Only the Deleon sounded off good enough to dig. It was about 8" down.

18 silver finds this year so far, and 16 were with the Deleon.

I agree with you Rainyday, if it.not broken why try to fix it! Great.detectors, great customer service and a excellent warranty. I'm sold!

To be honest Dan one of the reasons I bought the Deleon was because of your posts. You made it sound too good. I also talked to KennyD, he was very helpful too. Thanks for the tips, if you have anymore especially on finding gold with the Deleon please let me know.
I will post my findings as soon as I can, I have to wait till I pick up a coil cover before I it the trail.

Congrats on the new Deleon Ken!
I think you are going to love it, I know I sure do. Of all the machines I've used in the past, the D is my favorite.
Let us know how you do with it....

Ken...congrats on your Deleon purchase.

The Deleon has a factory set ground balance with no operator control of the Ground Balance. It is a turn on and go detector after setting the Sensitivity and Discrimination. If your ground conditions are good, you will have no problems, the soil conditions here in Kansas are mild and allow the Deleon to run smooth. I think it is a great detector if set up right. I have found that the Deleon has a lot of "gain" built into it, so go easy on the Sensitivity. If it is set up with too much Sensitivity it becomes a little bit unstable with constant "arrows up" and "LIFT COIL" screen indications. The Deleon will get good depth with more conservative Sensitivity settings much like the old saying " you can see better in the fog with low headlight beams than with high beams." The fog being trash or higher mineral soil.

If you are after small gold, set you Discrimination low, I like a setting between MIN. and IRON. On our (wife's) Deleon, this DISC. setting hits harder on the nickel range targets. Get some practice in and do not trust the meter too much, you will find some neat stuff with it.

I live in Michigan so from what i hear we have great soil for the Deleon. When looking for gold or silver where do they come in on the VDI numbers? Thanks Hombre for the tips.

The Deleon will put a smile on your face. :) It's hits really deep in mild soil.

Silver will hit a solid 95. Gold can be anywhere in the table range. If you want gold you need to dig the tabs. Same as any other machine. If you're hunting for silver then you don't need to dig trash. For our Canadian coins a 95 in any direction means dig. Our modern steel coins sound like th
e trash that they are. I dug a 10 year old dime yesterday and it was pretty rusty. Future generations won't be digging our crappy coins.

For the balance alone you are going to like the DeLeon better than the ATP.

Thanks all for the great tips. I can't wait to put it to the test, been eyeing this detector for some time. I hope the weather will hold up and give me a chance to do some digging!

I did a head to head test with my Deleon against my friends AT pro and it was too close to call. The only advantage I saw for the AT was that it separated slightly better, the upper range off the numbers were more spread out (all upper coins are a 95 on the Deleon) and it is more programmable. Depth was close on air test with my Deleon having a slight advantage. The Deleon is a feather compared to the AT pro and that means a lot to me. I don't like heavy detectors. Also the Deleon has analog tone that the AT does not. AT has a computer generated tone that gives no info. Oh and the Deleon has knobs!!!

With all those fine points you just added Wheatymike include that lifetime warranty and its a deal you just can't beat! If you send the your 30 year old detector and they have the parts in stock and will fix it for free how can you beat that! I bought my wife a camera for Christmas 6 years ago, it just quit working. I called the manufacturer and he said the camera is obsolete and they no longer have parts for it! I paid $700 for it and now its a desk weight.
He offered me another camera at 40% off that is cheaper model of my wife's camera. I told him why would I buy your.product when you don't stand behind it. From what I heard if Garrett doesn't have the parts for the older detector they will do the same for you except you get can get their most up to date detector at a higher cost. Plus their warranty should be longer than 2 years, that's just my feelings!
